Looking for a second opinion: Used SL vs new Riders Choice

Hey guys. I've looked at all my options, and narrowed it down to two potential choices. I'm 5'7", 130 lbs, and I'm really new (but I have gone out a couple times, so I know I like the sport). I want a board that can do it all, maybe with a freeride emphasis. The debate is whether to to buy this:

Snowboard Equipment Classifieds for Utah, Idaho, and Wyoming | ksl.com

or this:

GNU Riders Choice C2PX Snowboard 151.5cm Orange | All Mountain Snowboards | SolsticeSupply.com | Board Shop

My friend claims buying used is okay, and because I'm new I won't be able to tell the difference except in my wallet, but I have heard other things, and I'm not sure buying used is a good idea. (If I go new, he'll probably make fun of me, but I just have to deal with that. :dizzy: )

In addition, is there any way to check a used board to see how much damage it's sustained?

If neither of these is a good choice, I could be convinced to get a new SL, an Attack Banana, or a Heritage, but I'm more towards these. Don't hesitate to post any other suggestions (although I think I would prefer a sintered base with how much riding/progressing I want to do).

Buying used is totally fine but that's such a good price for the RC that I'd take it. It's a little smaller too so that will be to your advantage. For a 130lbs beginner you will probably progress faster on something like a 147cm Carbon Credit though. Longer/stiffer boards are harder to learn on.
Fuck solstice supply. Devious site. Hiding model years etc. (not on this board but others). Some even report not getting the right year.

Try to find it elsewhere.

Rode an SL, and an oversized Riders Choice. Both good boards for beginners. SL is smooth and confidence inspiring, and bulletproof. Rider's choice is more nimble and fun, lively.

Freeride I'd steer towards the SL actually. Freestyle the Rider's choice. Just my opinion.

Freeride? Why not buy Nivek's Flow Rush for $125 plus shipping. 2014. Trusted member. Limited edition and costs around $500 new. Do it.

YEEEEAAAAHHHHHH. It really is the best deal you can get to be honest. It's a lot of board though, so if you're strong have at it.

Otherwise search for a Raygun. Evo has a 153 for just over $250. I'd ride that over either of the SL or the Gnu.
Thanks guys, this is really helpful.

Nivek, your board looks awesome, but it'll be tough to sell my (super conservative) parents on the graphic (even though I think it's sick). I'll keep you posted though.

Also, the Raygun has an extruded base, will that end up being an annoyance?

Link?? what length?
thanks, a lil on the short side for me though. someone should snap that up pronto
Short side? It was my charger powder board and I've got 20lbs on you...
Hmm, I want Nivek's, but if that turns out to be impossible, would a 2013 Rush from Evo be a good choice?

sure, but why. $125 man! That ish is cheap. If I was looking for a freeride board I'd snatch it up. Plus it comes with a tittie right in the middle. Nivek's a solid dude he ain't going anywhere.

I think the graphic is sick (and not even that revealing lol), but I can't pull the trigger if I can't get the people with legal jurisdiction over me to approve it. :dunno:

EDIT: It's not even the top graphic that's the problem, as I could just sticker over that if I had to.
Ahh gotcha. Stay away from Flows then

I hear ya. Parents are weird. Zombie, skulls violence is ok but boobies aren't. Gotta love America!

Haha, I know exactly what you mean! From what I hear, that's reversed in some parts of Europe (can anyone vouch for this?), proving that it's completely arbitrary!

Anyway, I'm currently thinking Rush, Riders Choice, or SL (possibly a shorter one than I linked to) in no particular order. Thoughts?

Sorry about all the questions, I just want to be sure I get this right!
I can't really say as I've never ridden the flow but I hated my 2011 SL, my buddy's riders choice was ok, but I only test drove it a few times.

I did purchase a Flow Drifter a few weeks ago though!
Nice looking board! putting on the red raiden phantoms tonight. First time leaving Cartels in almost a decade, haha.

I can't wait till Castle resort opens!

Rush for sure.
All right, unless anyone has a wildly different opinion to tell, it looks like the Rush is winning!

This is the reason I love forums. I can't believe anyone would go to Reddit or Facebook for info when there are forums in the world.

Not so much a different opinion but an idea for your lobbying efforts re Nivek's board. Remind your parents the base graphic will be on snow thus not even visible much. Promise to always keep it stored base-down in the event they don't want to see it. You'll sticker over the top sheet if needed. You're interested in the board because of its tech and the amazing deal you can get for it, not for the graphic. Seems like logical and mature thinking to me.

If they think it's offensive to women, (if it helps) it's not to this one. As others have already said, they're just breasts. Which are basically purposeful glands and fat tissue covered in flesh.
Parents. We all know parents.

Tell them, this one, with a sticker over it, will be $125. New it's $550. My mom is super religious. But also writhes in agony if she loses $1. I'm too old to listen to my mom but if I were in your situation, and promised to cover it she'll take the $400

Never rode the rush but it seems a capable freeride board and if that's what you want, I'd get that over the RC.

That said, ALL are capable boards at your experience level. Show the options to your parents, and find out what they approve. Go with it.
