Hi,

I'm a first time poster here, but been reading for some time

I'm planning to buy a new board for the next season.
The only board i've been riding, since i started snowboarding 3 years ago, is the Burton Jussi '09 in size 156 with cartel EST bindings.

Now I want to try something new. I've sold the Jussi with bindings to a friend and can now start looking for a new setup.

I am weighing about 160-165 lbs and i'm 6 feet tall.
I have a pair of Burton Ruler '09 boots in size 10.5 that i'm keeping.

I like to ride a bit of everything:
- 45% prepared/packed slopes
- 30% powder
- 25% park

If theres good powder i'll ride that more than the hard pack.

All in all I need an all-mountain board so i've been looking at some of Burtons flying-v boards. The Custom FV doesn't really get good reviews, but it seems that the sherlock does. Some say that the squeezebox from the 2013 model hasn't added anything to the 2012 model. I've got no problem with buying last years model which is widely available. The graphics also look better imo, but that's not a big issue.

Which Burton board do you recommend for me. If the sherlock which model/year?
Also please help with sizing of the board.
Do you have any recommendations for est bindings which would go well with the board you recommend and my riding prefs?

I live in Denmark and the only brand available is Burton, so please don't suggest anything else

If you're looking at FVs, why did you dismiss the Burton Process?

I don't think production year will matter much. If you are more focused on park go custom. If more focused on powder, go Sherlock.

If you ride ice a lot go custom cambered.

To save a bit on price go burton process.

If you want something more fun and playful go Antler, it's a little softer than Sherlock or Custom.

If you get a Sherlock from first production year it glows in the dark, useless feature but good for finding your Board late at night after bar hopping.

I've heard good things about the Antler. Interesting concept for a board and should fit your needs well.

I got a great deal on a Burton Antler via ebay about 6 weeks ago and finally got 7 days on the mountain last week in a variety of VT conditions including a foot of powder Tues/Wed. Not sure why there is not more praise out there for this board. Mine is set up with Genesis EST.

Since I ride groomers more than powder, which one would you suggest? From what i read antler is better for groomers - but is it way better? The antler would also be okay for pow right?

What size for both boards would you recommend?

I have a Sherlock, it's fun on groomers but its at its best in powder, that is what it was designed for. I bought it for trips to Whistler, I have other boards for groomers.

I've demo'd the antler and would recommend it if you see more groomers than powder. I was tempted to buy one but I already have three boards. The antler will still be lots of fun in powder, due o it's shape. I think the antler is Burton's most interesting new board this year. It brings high tech to hybrid shape. .

I've looked around for antler, but it seems to be sold out in most shops, hence it might not be an option anyway. However i've seen the method '12 in several places at a good price, but reviews on this board are sparse so i dunno if it's a good choice.

Is the joystick v-rocker comparable to the antler/sherlock to suit my needs? Park is not a priority, so that's why i didn't look into it.

I think they are billing the Joystick more as a freestyle board but IMO it is (or was, the last time I rode it which was last Feb) really an all-mountain board. I actually prefer that one to the Custom FV for all-mountain riding. Actually, I don't like the CFV at all really. But the Joystick is a really fun board.

I recently bought a Sherlock for pow (which I rarely see except for trips out West) and the occasional groomer days. It's definitely on the softer side of "all mountain" but I'm loving it so far for those days that I'm not spending any time in the park.

Flex-wise Burton says the Joystick (4) is softer than the Sherlock (5). Perhaps I don't remember the Joystick as much as I thought, but I didn't get that soft of a ride out of it.

Do you want stiff or soft binding or in the middle?

High end or middle price?

I just ordered a Sherlock 154 off of Dogfunk yesterday ($300 shipped).

Eventually, I'll have to buy a EST binding... maybe a Mission binding... not sure yet.

I'd say stick with cartels then, Burton's other stiff binding is the diode, über stiff, über light, but also their most expensive. I love mine but they were pricy.

Cartels are stiffer than those two. If you want a high end binding with medium stiffness genesis would be it. Malavitas are softer than genesis. If you want a stiff binding cartels or diodes.
