Hey all! New snowboarder here, living a little west of Seattle. Started last january, last run was in late march. I went snowboarding at snoqualmie about 10-15 times in that time period. At LEAST once a week to snoqualmie central/alpental. I hit Crystal MT once on the snowboard, once on some rented ski's and equipment.

Just looking for some new/more people to go boarding with, I plan on going to snoqualmie about once or twice a week this season also. I go during the week and at night mostly however.

So, whats up the PNW!

I do plan on taking some trips to Crystal, Mt.Hood, and anywhere else thats worth going to!

Ding ding ding, we have a winner.

Do that, don't plan a trip there.
Chances are you time it shittily.

Not every day is mind blowing.

Have your gear ready to go, then one of those nights in winter, snow will be puking it's brains out.

Get up retardedly early, and go there.

That first 25 minute run of untouched powder, will bring tears to your eyes.
You'll never want to go home.

Fo realz

TT
I wish i could but I have school and its a 4 hour drive one way. So waking up at 3 am. Leaving at 4 am. Boarding at 9am. Leaving at lets say 4 pm. Getting home at 9 or 10 pm because food and traffic. Thats not easy for a 17 year old to do unless i went by myself.

I don't know what your thoughts on life are. But if you think you cannot make a four hour drive as a single college man w/ no kids, no wife and no real job. I'd say look out. Life is about to hit you in the face.
I can make a single 4 hour drive.

But im not sure if im able to see a night of powder. Get friends that are also willing to wake up at the crack of dawn and also have $100 or more ready to be dropped. Leave. Make a 4 hour trip at least. Snowboard for 8 hours. Then make another 4 hour trip home in the same day.

Im also 17 so i dont think i can even cross the border legally by myself without a parent. Plus im in school and working right now. Id love to do all this and i definitely could myself but i like doing stuff with people

Now if I could plan a trip and what not. Thatd be easy. But i dont know about waiting until theres a day of powder and dropping everything i have to do to go drive for 8 hours and snowboard for 8

I get the random trip, but surely you can plan one.
Oh most definitely can plan one. Id love to. Id just want some friends who can go with me. Itd be even better if i could get a hotel room for a night or two. Maybe that's what I'll do my birthday since it's coming up in the winter.

Its just a matter of....how bad do you want to do it, your ability to think your way out of a wet paper bag and are you committed to your passion. My daughter at age 17, a senior in high school, lived 56 miles from the hill, did not have a driver license or a car, worked 2 part time jobs and got in 100+ days of riding and skiing. Did her senior project training with ski patrol and was skiing huge BC lines that most folks only dream about...And she crossed to boarder all the time with her friends....Not with parents.

And she did graduate on time with good grades.

So quite your whining and get your ballz out of your purse!
That's cool?

After some research your daughter is in a very different situation from me.

For example, I dont live within 2 hours of whistler and under 2 hours for mt.baker
Theres more but, whats the point lol.

You're 100% right, it ain't easy. Not in the least.

My drive, is 3.5 hours. Bout the same really.
I'd rather go the night before, that's what I usually end up doing.

When you KNOW it's puking up there & you're gonna be riding the most incredible lines of your life. Hahaha

It's pretty damn hard to get any sleep anyway.

There's also a earlier "fresh trax" ticket you can buy. There's only a certain amount though, it's first come, first serve.

One of those, will get you on the peak, with an all you can eat buffet breakfast @ 6am.

Then after your done eating, you get the WHOLE mtn for 2.5 hours all to yourself.

So you get 10hrs of non stop powder slaying goodness.
It's almost too much for your body to handle, almost hahaha

https://vimeo.com/117348889
I had 2 gopro's with me this day.
In all those 10hrs, this was all the footy I managed to get 6 seconds.

It had snowed for 4 days, all of the alpine had been closed to everyone, nobody was allowed up there, it was like 3 feet deep of untouched heaven.

In the close to 30 years that I've been snowboarding, no single day, including 4 days at BaldFace lodge riding with Jamie Lynn & other pro's even came close to how fucking incredible this day was.
It brings tears to my eyes just thinking about it.

It's tough for me to get up that early & make it there that early.
So I usually go the night before, park at McDonald's, then wait a few hours until it's open.
When it's puking that much & you know you're gonna have the best day of your life, hahaha, it's kinda hard to get any sleep, no matter where you're trying to sleep.

I'm sure it seems like an impossible task, but it's not that hard once you leave your house.

But HOLY FUCK hahaha is it ever worth it.

^ Ya, I'm grumpy geezer..but not hate'n...every year we get some youthz saying the same thing...but it is really about commitment. Iirc last year/spring it was some kid in a burb of Van BC...saying that his parent wouldn't let him, no rides...and yadadada. Well we gave him shit and told him...to ballz up and make it happen...he did...and guess what, he got stoked and discovered it was really up to him to make things happen. There are many forumites here that HAVE made the commitment... the to move to slopeslide, dirtbag a season, or just move to a hill and make it happen. So kick'n him in the ballz to wake-up and realize that he is the captain of his own ship or shit...imo is not a bad thing...and I don't care what his priorities or commitment are...that is up to him to decide. However his responses to this thread and another loooong thread are basically excuses/whines/attention seeking...instead of inquiring how/what to do to make it happen and noting the advice that was given. So just calling-out his commitment.

Rant over...dammit it we need more snow!

Edit...and if OP wants to come up for the tour (pm)...I'd gladly give him a tour of the holyland...and in all likelihood, he would in his youth be able to ride much better than I...but I don't care...it'd be fun.
OFFS,…! :facepalm2: Is this something you want to do or what?

I'm 55! (…point being, I'm Old & Tired alla time!) I work till midnight,… During the season I'll get 3 hours of sleep, Pack 3 boards in the car, fill a thermos with coffee and hit the road by 5:00 to drive 3.5-5 hours (…road conditions dependent) in order to get there for 1st chair! And that's just so I can ride solo on a lousy 550ft of vertical, icy, midwest man made!!!

If I was only a 4 hour drive from someplace like Whistler,..???? I'd be there every other weekend until the credit card imploded!!!

I'm with Wrath,… Kid needs to stop whining and De-Purse his testicles!! Or as @Rogue so aptly put it,….

"Suck it up Buttercup!!!"
Okay. I'm just gonna make this clear.

It's NOT that I cannot make a trip up to whistler.
I cannot make it up to whistler on a random decision the night before. I just gotta plan one.

And before wrath comes out talking about his daughter, youre in bellingham and 2 hours away from whistler and an hour and a half from mt.baker. If i was in bellingham, i could easily do it randomly and Id probably own a seasons pass to whistler. Im actually going to apply to a college up near Bellingham for that exact reason and refuse to go to a school that isnt within 2 hours of a place to snowboard.

Thanks for the 'motivation' though everyone, if anyone ever wants to go snowboarding feel free to hit me up and Ill do my best to make it, I need more friends who snowboard haha.

I get the sentiment of this, but I live in sandy corner of Australia and would kill to live a 4hr drive from Whis haha. I gotta save up mega thousands and go on long-haul flights to get there for a little bit. Not trying to say the trek you gotta make is super easy or anything, but it's possible, which is something. Definitely make that trip for your bday like you said, it will be sick fun +bonus if you enjoy road trips and all that. Maybe look into the best non-peak times to head up so you get the most out of it.

I feel like this thread got kinda off topic anyways? OP wants to meet homies in his area to go shred with. To me he sounds pretty motivated to spend time on the hill and progress, not about to take any avalanche course or relocate to another city while he's in school though...

I had a friend who lived in Van like eight minutes from Grouse, and he was always "yeah man I'd like to go ride more often but I can't because x y z" and that blew my mind. I was so jealous of this guy because all he had to do was jump on his local bus route that dropped him straight off at the gondola. THAT motherfucker was unmotivated...

This guys alright, someone go ride with him
Hey i may be moving to Australia in the next year or year and a half ish. Its not likely but theres a possibility. Im curious about cars there, Thats my biggest hobby beyond snowboarding

Well, let me make this perfectly clear.... Maybe you haven't done enough reading of the other threads or posts Here! But you're on a forum with ppl whom 90% of them LIVE by the addage,....

"No Friends on a POW Day!!!"

So... If you think our advice or comments are ever gonna allow for excuses,..??? You're in the wrong place! You wanna shred? Shred! Find a way. Friends pussy out? Their loss, ride solo! Job in the way,..? Take a sick day!! Whatever it takes to get your turns in.

It's ok if you're a "weekend warrior!" Plenty out there are! It's just not what most of us are about or why we're here!
I find a way. I always do. Luckily im not important at work so I can go in whenever. But I plan on trying to get a job at the summit. Save me $350 on a seasons pass

Hands down, @brystephor takes the cake for how to make an entertaining thread. Can't wait to see what else is in store!

Not sure how it happens. I am being honest and not trying to start anything on any threads but i guess it's natural. Maybe I am an ignorant asshole.

On to the next thread though right? Not sure what category this one will be posted in or on.

Don't rush the next thread, let it come naturally haha
Probably be something in the lounge area. I like talking to you guys even if you guys dont like talking to me!

I have absolutely no idea what I did wrong in this thread. But if it makes anyone feel better ive started seeing which friends have passports and which ones dont.

Riding on the weekends isn't what makes one a weekend warrior. I mean I work so the weekends are when I get most of my turns in as well. And if you're going to the trouble & expense of flying out to the snow like that... You ain't a dilettante!!

It's going only when it's easy, epic, convenient, or when only you can get a group of other dilettantes to agree to go along! (....And then they prolly spend the bulk of the day in the bar or lounge!!) Those are the weekend warriors!

I'm betting like a lot of the rest of us,... you'll ride in shit, sunshine or slush if its available! And if there's POW to be had,... Work, women & weather be damned!!! Gonna getchoo summa that, right?! >:)
Hes no weekend warrior. That dude is a weekend god.

More important than passports....which ones are felons and/or have dui's

As for schools...have you checked out Quest Uni?

As for favorite spot in WA? and a place to hike for some early turns...:computer3:
I doubt any of them have felons or dui's. The friends who get in trouble are the ones who don't snowboard. But thats another subject.

And no i havent. Havent heard of it actually, is that the U.S. or Canada? I was thinjing western washington University might be a good choice since its in bellingham (i think) and then i could hit up mt.baker too. Btw I'll take you up on your offer of a tour if that was serious, id love to hit up mt.baker

As for favorite spot, any reccomending hiking places? I really really wanna try that before the slopes get packed with the casual riders. I just found my dads old burton backpack that is meant for carrying a snowboard also.

you can drive to any pass, find snow and start hiking...and slide down...but have really got to have your shit together or go with someone that does...cause shit happens in the hills...like billygoats with guns and serial killers

yes the offer is good for a tour

there are tons of kids that do wwu and take winter qtr off to shred

quest is in BC ... close to whisler and they have snow bennies...there are some local kids that do that over wwu and abunch of kids end up in montana
I had montana on my list of places because ive heard big sky is awesome.
But im also into cars and i hate rust. So montana isnt that preferred. Im also thinkimg about places in oregon near mt hood because timberline has nearly year round snowboarding also.
