I can make a single 4 hour drive.

But im not sure if im able to see a night of powder. Get friends that are also willing to wake up at the crack of dawn and also have $100 or more ready to be dropped. Leave. Make a 4 hour trip at least. Snowboard for 8 hours. Then make another 4 hour trip home in the same day.

Im also 17 so i dont think i can even cross the border legally by myself without a parent. Plus im in school and working right now. Id love to do all this and i definitely could myself but i like doing stuff with people

Its just a matter of....how bad do you want to do it, your ability to think your way out of a wet paper bag and are you committed to your passion. My daughter at age 17, a senior in high school, lived 56 miles from the hill, did not have a driver license or a car, worked 2 part time jobs and got in 100+ days of riding and skiing. Did her senior project training with ski patrol and was skiing huge BC lines that most folks only dream about...And she crossed to boarder all the time with her friends....Not with parents.

And she did graduate on time with good grades.

So quite your whining and get your ballz out of your purse!

You can go to the great north...a whole car load of kids under 18...but you got to have a passport, a note from the p-rents and a designated plan. As for gear, lift tickets/passes she was self-sponsored/supporting at age 15. She made choices of not having a car to shell money out for which allowed her to afford more gear and passes. Granted she was somewhat the exception compared to normal high schoolers, but she was with a group of kids that made the snowy life their commitment and made it happen. As for being the parent, my support was this..."I'm not going to say no, nor am I saying yes...but I am expecting that you come up with the plan and make it happen for yourself if that is what you want to do."

Example: At age 15 she asked for a loan to buy her season's pass because she had not saved enough $ (she had been buying her own season's pass since 6th grade)...I told her I could not afford a $500 hit and told her that she was a smart gal and would figure something out. She stomped off...pissed!!...but the following week she was all stoked and said..."dad I got my pass...I'm going to be a ski and snowboard instructor and get a free season's pass....so you can drive me up the hill on Saturdays and Sunday's." Which my response...ehmm...No...you got plenty of friends that you can catch a ride with. Anyway her sophomore year she got 40-50 days in and junior year got like 80 days. She is not an exceptional kid...but her commitment to her passion was exceptionally focused.

^ Ya, I'm grumpy geezer..but not hate'n...every year we get some youthz saying the same thing...but it is really about commitment. Iirc last year/spring it was some kid in a burb of Van BC...saying that his parent wouldn't let him, no rides...and yadadada. Well we gave him shit and told him...to ballz up and make it happen...he did...and guess what, he got stoked and discovered it was really up to him to make things happen. There are many forumites here that HAVE made the commitment... the to move to slopeslide, dirtbag a season, or just move to a hill and make it happen. So kick'n him in the ballz to wake-up and realize that he is the captain of his own ship or shit...imo is not a bad thing...and I don't care what his priorities or commitment are...that is up to him to decide. However his responses to this thread and another loooong thread are basically excuses/whines/attention seeking...instead of inquiring how/what to do to make it happen and noting the advice that was given. So just calling-out his commitment.

Rant over...dammit it we need more snow!

Edit...and if OP wants to come up for the tour (pm)...I'd gladly give him a tour of the holyland...and in all likelihood, he would in his youth be able to ride much better than I...but I don't care...it'd be fun.

You're 100% right, it ain't easy. Not in the least.

My drive, is 3.5 hours. Bout the same really.
I'd rather go the night before, that's what I usually end up doing.

When you KNOW it's puking up there & you're gonna be riding the most incredible lines of your life. Hahaha

It's pretty damn hard to get any sleep anyway.

There's also a earlier "fresh trax" ticket you can buy. There's only a certain amount though, it's first come, first serve.

One of those, will get you on the peak, with an all you can eat buffet breakfast @ 6am.

Then after your done eating, you get the WHOLE mtn for 2.5 hours all to yourself.

So you get 10hrs of non stop powder slaying goodness.
It's almost too much for your body to handle, almost hahaha

I had 2 gopro's with me this day.
In all those 10hrs, this was all the footy I managed to get 6 seconds.

It had snowed for 4 days, all of the alpine had been closed to everyone, nobody was allowed up there, it was like 3 feet deep of untouched heaven.

In the close to 30 years that I've been snowboarding, no single day, including 4 days at BaldFace lodge riding with Jamie Lynn & other pro's even came close to how fucking incredible this day was.
It brings tears to my eyes just thinking about it.

It's tough for me to get up that early & make it there that early.
So I usually go the night before, park at McDonald's, then wait a few hours until it's open.
When it's puking that much & you know you're gonna have the best day of your life, hahaha, it's kinda hard to get any sleep, no matter where you're trying to sleep.

I'm sure it seems like an impossible task, but it's not that hard once you leave your house.

But HOLY FUCK hahaha is it ever worth it.

you can drive to any pass, find snow and start hiking...and slide down...but have really got to have your shit together or go with someone that does...cause shit happens in the hills...like billygoats with guns and serial killers

yes the offer is good for a tour

there are tons of kids that do wwu and take winter qtr off to shred

quest is in BC ... close to whisler and they have snow bennies...there are some local kids that do that over wwu and abunch of kids end up in montana

They let him check in at 17 without any issues? I got told my trip to whistler for my birthday was cancelled because someone needed to be over the age of like 21 or 25 to take charge of the room. I have my own debit card with checkimgs and savings but its like the minor account of my parents. I also cant get a credit card at my age is what the bank told me even if it is linked to my parents account. Im jealous haha. I was really upset to hear the whistler trip had to be cancelled. Id totally go to whistler and pay for everything myself if the hotel rooms wouldnt have a problem with it.

Ive also only left the country once. So im not familiar on border patrols or crossings or however that works..never been to canada. I have two very little siblings (6 and 2) so, I'm on my own for about 95% of the things I do like paying for gas on my own, snowboarding expenses, any travelling expenses, anything related to my hobbies, etc.

Son...go to whistler for your Bday...ya don't need reservations...hang out, don't be a dick...find a ehmmm... nice Canadian cougar that will enjoy helping you celebrating your 18th...ride and then go shred. >:)

And you need to focus on just riding...a lot...so you can keep up. And at some point you will start to blow past us geezers and that's ok...we gotz treachery.

People still ride snowboards? I thought all this global warming was putting a end to it.

You WON'T be able to keep up with Argo, or his kid I would bet I rode with him for a few minutes a few times back in vail. Haha but I'm getting antsy about this season starting, I'm just having trouble deciding where I'm gonna buy a season pass. Last year I only got 2 days in and fucked my back up at work. This year I'm looking for at least 2 days a week, a looking for some one interested in chipping in for gas. I live in Everett, so it's about the same distance to both baker or stevens.

Typical days off for me are Monday and Tuesday.
from everett, stevens is much closer...baker will be about 2 hours 10 minutes drive time. if heading up to bakes, pm and perhaps we can do an easy carpool from da ham
