Intermediate to Advanced boarder with 20 years of mostly intermittent riding - all mountain freestyle type of guy. Fairly aggressive style like to hit every natural feature in sight, whilst also lining up the mid-large tables in the park, the occasional rail, A LOT of switch, also love buttering around at slower speeds. A lot to cover in one deck, I know The powder days here are not super-frequent so not a huge pre-requisite.
6'2", 155lb, US10.5 (shoe size not necessarily boot)
Currently have Union Contact bindings, and 32 Lashed boots. But the boots are definitely getting an upgrade too - so any recommends there would be amazing.
Like the idea of an asymmetrical twin, camber under the toes, slight rock at tip and tail but open to any suggestions outside those parameters.
Been eyeing up the following:
Capita - The Asymulator Ride - Algorythm (difficult to acquire here on the tiny island but probably the board I am most drawn to - the only one available that i found is a 2020 155 Wide but unsure it will suit my weight and boot size??) Yes - The Greats Capita - Mercury Ride - Twinpig (unconventional, outlier but the playful nature kind of appeals)
Kia Ora 🙏 (interchangeable greeting and show of thanks in my indigenous language - Māori)
hey dude,
what size boots do you have currently?
My street shoes are US10.5 (D width), and my 32 TM2 boots are 10.0US, but apparently 32s run maybe a half size small in the sizing, according to the shop guy who fitted me. (so perhaps an "actual" 9.5US)
You will definitely be sizing down in your shred boots, it's just a matter of how much. bank on at least 1/2 or a full size smaller than your street shoes. (unless you have weird feet/fitting issues)
EDIT - what was the issue if any with the 32 lashed boots? too big when the liners packed out?

The lashed were a touch too soft for my liking, was rocking them in a 10US but that was toe crushing tight. And hearing that it sounds like I may have actually been closer to an eleven in the 32's.
Just yesterday picked up a pair of Rome - Libertine Boas in 10.5 and the fit is perfect. My foot runs really narrow. Tried the 32 3XD's in 11 and didn't jive with the fit nearly as much. Also tried the Burton Ions which I liked but felt maybe a bit too stiff, although I did ride the Solomon Malamutes for a few seasons and got on well with them so wouldn't be too much of a stretch.
Seem to be a decent match for the unions too, although something slighter stiffer binding wise would likely be even better. Actually rode them last night at Snowplanet (a snowdome with a small park) and was blown away by the comfort.
Also, realised riding last night that I am may be leaning more into park again this season, had a blast hitting all the features. May affect my choice of board. Thought about throwing in a Capita - DOA to the mix for a more park oriented all mountain.
If I was you I'd just grab that 2020 155W Algorythm, it's more of a mid wide and you're smack in the middle of the weight range. Should be a perfect do it all fit and hopefully save some bucks. Boards aren't cheap on Islands hah.
If there was a heavier discount it would make all the difference but it's pretty close to 2022 Asym dollars so doesn't really weigh in to the equation.
Good to have another kiwi around here! Guessing you frequent Whakapapa if you're driving down from up north? (figured due to Snowplanet being in Auckland)
Ae bro, but over the years less, and less. More likely to get in a few weekends at Ruapehu depending on the snow base then get in a decent to trip to the South (usually Treble, or Cardrona) or a couple if I am really lucky.
Thanks for the warm welcome bro. Care to weigh in on the board chat? Haha. So many good options, know I can't go wrong really it's just how I am hard wired to research the sh$t out of everything.
Looking out my window at snow on the remarkables. Soon, soon, soon.
Union contacts are tanks. Great binding, simple, pretty much bulletproof.
Good you got boots you are happy with. I've ridden burton rulers for many years. Might be worth an eyeball next time you are in the market.. They are probably the best boot for the money there is.
Looking at the June 19 for Coronet opening day. One can only hope they make it.

Thanks bro, really happy with my setup for this season. Pulled the trigger on a 154 2022 Capita Asymulator which arrives early next month to round it out. Ride a lot of switch and was keen to try something a little more playful - my last few have been park leaning full camber boards for the most part. Roll on the snow.
Just flew over Ruapehu with a nice bit of frosting on top.
Yes, The Greats was a close 2nd but l read angrys review of the post 18' models and it kind of skewed me towards the CAPITA. Everyone who reviewed the Asym seemed to just have so much fun on it. Love their eco leaning ethos too. Thanks for weighing in bro 👊🏼
