There is still pow :)

After a little Alps hiatus (trip and fue), we're back home, and home is nice to us. Storm for weekend, tho with high rain level, thus bootpacking for high elevation runs was required, but after tracking all out, another storm covered tracks, and enabled to ride sweet fresh lines again today, yay. Not deep, but hey, it's spring. If there's untracked fluff left in northern aspects, that's enough to be happy. Such a sweet season

Prime touring weather in Alps atm. Matured pow in northern aspects, corn in southern. Impressions from two tours in backyard :)

Season end weekend at home resort, blessed with loads of sunshine, spring corn, AND still sweet matured pow in northern aspects. Sooo worth to bootpack for still untracked lines farer away from lifts :)

What a season! Haven't ridden groomers at home since mid Jan, lol. Big thanks to weather gods which blessed us with regular dumps to have a continued rinse repeat off piste dream season!

Aha! I don't think that you've ever mentioned the name of your local ski area but I recognise the top lift/runs as I spent a few days there back in February. Noisy f16s eh?

Yeah, every now and then, we can look down on them low flying birds :). Pretty cool to watch them maneuver through the valleys, how quickly they reach the end and shoot upwards.

How many Avy's do they trigger?

Right. The storm delivered. 3ft in high alpine. Woohoo, welcome back, winter :) LOVE those April weather swings. One day it's 20°C t-shirt weather, the other day a storm transforms even lowlands back to inter wonderland!

(horsy was equally delighted :))

We had 22cm in Alpe D’Huez a week ago, and a couple of 4cm top ups the last week. Should be getting a load starting tonight and all day Tuesday. Nothing like what happened before Xmas though

You're out for the season right? How's it going? I really enjoyed the place the one time I went. Not many places in France I'd fancy revisiting but Alpe d'Huez is definitely one of them.

but... as SnowHound said: it's been a bad season so far. Only three small dumps ever since November. And yeah, those three did get us some nice pow turns, but nothing special. Nothing knee deep yet. Tho, hardly anything to post about, except you like pics of climbing over ridges with grass patches, or crawling over rock filled couloir entries because there's not enough snowcover to RIDE, lol.

Waiting patiently for a couple of feet of snow in SW Switzeland over the next 48 hours.
Oh yeah. I'm checking the forecasts every hour and am silently snowdancing, hoping that this storm will hit hard! I'm tired of collecting rock shots and seing daisies blossoming infront of our alpine cabin

I was in La Clusaz week before last & it was... not great. Lots of white stuff thanks to it being north-facing, but that white stuff was icy as hell. A mate's in Ischgl at the moment, I think I may have to block him on social media before he becomes too unbearable.

yeah, just into my 3rd week here. Found some nice powders stashes over near Vaujany. The last big dump of snow came on a Friday night, so the locals tracked up everything within the first 48 hours. They didn’t seem to touch the Vaujany/Oz side much though, so it’s still relatively good over a week on.

most of the slopes are really quiet though in general. Lots of people head up the glacier and do the Sarenne, which is a nice long black run and has some powder routes off it, but I don’t know them very well, so not been getting too involved in them. Auris, another adjoining resort under the same lift pass is another area people just don’t tend to go much. So the powder seems to stay for a while over there too.

if you (or anyone else for that matter) make it back out this year, give me a shout and we can do a few runs and sink some beers

Right, thanks god there was this little dump at the end of december! That saved the holiday.

We got some nice turns then.

Also a couple of nice sunsets!

I spent the first few weeks of January in St Anton (AT), and it was just as depressing there for powder days too. The whole Arlberg region had like 2 small snow falls during that time. Such a drastic change compared to what we had last season.
In fact by the end of my stay there the hill sides that were gracefully concealed by white where now showing their true colours of green hidden away.

Hoping the powder gods come your way soon!
