Rad Dads: changes to your quiver?

1854 Views 32 Replies 21 Participants Last post by  Surgeon
Any dads who changed/reduced their quiver after getting their kid(s) into snowboarding?

My number of riding days (just for myself) will be reduced for while I get my young child progressing into snowboarding.

And I wonder if I need to cut down or change my quiver for that reason.

Current quiver:
Lib Dynamo (freeride)

Rome Stale Fish (powder/party)

Yes. Standard (all mountain)

Capita Asymulator (freestyle, early/late season)

Heavily debating having a Quiver of One (or 2).

Prior to the season that just ended I added a Rome Stale Fish and enjoyed the heck out of it in Utah and then later in Michigan (when we got hit with a foot of fresh snow). I got rid of a couple older boards and am down to the Stale Fish and my knock-around board, an older T. Rice Pro. If I was getting 40+ days I would probably add a deck or two but for the 15-20 days I typically get I think I am set.

When my kids were younger I started to mess with volume shift decks, setting up decks switch for the day and gulp... skiing. I wanted to have a few skills I could work on that were new which meant i was back in learner mode with my kids. Worked great for me as it slowed me down and kept me enjoying the greens
When my kids were younger I got more into jib/park decks because going fast with them around wasn't an option.

Riding switch a lot is a great idea too. Flip the bindings around on a directional board once your kids can get off a lift without help.

No kids but find myself party boarding more often while riding with the wifey. Lots of time on the park board. Legit bought my moss cause I thought I'd be a slower more fun board to ride with her but nope I just blast on everything. Honestly the best trick I've found is to have her micro dose shrooms before riding; much faster and more fearless. Plz don't dose ur kids tho.

I actually expended mine when my daughter arrived. Compensation maybe? If can't, at least I can buy! Plus I can now make her quiver too!

Now I didn't actually get that much less ride for myself. I either go super early for burning myself on corduroy or easy accessed pow or even skinning, then ride with her. Or she is in full ear first hour in the morning, but will come back home earlier, and then I go for a charging session late morning/lunch time. Then nap time, I will go with my brother father etc. most likely with the easy deck. And then after the afternoon snack, time for sledding, digging igloos or some more snowboarding (for her!). Now she even go skiing with her grand-mother, at the kid's club. Which leaves me even more time.

The only thing that really makes me have less days is the off-time I sink in the parental kindergarten. But next year is school, with holidays to fill during winter!

On the Asymulator, I am in the same situation as you: I could sell it, it wouldn't make a difference. But I don't need the money and I am fine riding it a couple days a year or keeping it as a collector. Realistically, I could do everything on my Dancehaul and my Vertical split. But man, the "Korua time" in the moring or those "Korua days" might not be the bulk if my riding, but they are great times!

Considering riding with kids tho for your quiver I'd ditch the lib and the yes. C3 only likes going fast and the capita is cooler than the yes.

Dancehaul like etienne would be a perfect ride with kids board.

Nah… keep ‘em unless you need the change.

Also, the Stale Fish is already your quiver of one if you're not bombing runs. You'll be spending a ton of money on kids' gear and tickets that they won't appreciate for at least ten years anyway, so keep it simple.

Depending on your skill level I’d go with a nose rider, have some fun and get weird

I bought a K2 Party Platter to ride with my daughter first, then a Yup and a Surfari and a Dada and a Korua Pocket Rocket - still haven't ridden the PP 😂 😂

I actually think the PP is exactly what I'm after but still yet to get on it

What about a Rad Grandad quiver? I have all my grandkids(5) to snowboarding and skiing since they were 2 (oldest is now 14). I had the Charlie Slasher(now a splitboard) Niche Aether, Warpig, Chamonix Chemin, Endeavor Maverick, Niche Pyre, K2 SE, and lastly..Rossi Sashimi Splitboard:). I got rid of the Aether, Chemin will be a hang up for decoration, Maverick will be a rock board(early season).

I'm thinking to get a park board for exactly this. As my kid improves, my switch riding does too as I chase him around the mountain doing butters and 180s. He's fast enough now that it's a challenge to keep up.

It was too easy, but it’s also too dad, so I won’t. 😬

Just bought a party platter 147 for dad duty. Really looking forward to trying it out next season. Board seems incredibly small (I'm 175lbs, size 9 boots) but looks like it'll be a lot of fun for messing around with the kids.

one of the best all mountain boards of all time is the Bataleon Party Wave Twin
Rides powder, park, groomers, steeps, freeride, etc. like a dream
if ur not into 3BT then the TWINPIG or WARPIG is another awesome choice
