Relation board/binding size

Hi,

I have a Burton Process 159, which has 255mm waist width and suggested binding size L.
I've been riding it with M sized Burton Mission bindings, but now I'm considering upgrading to Burton Cartel L size.
My boots are the Burton Rulers 10 size and I ride mostly all-mountain and pow.

Do you think it's worth the upgrade?

Thanks in advance.

If your bindings fit your boot correctly than going to a large is not an upgrade. Going from a medium binding to a large also won't impact the edge to edge in any meaningful way. Burton's binding size rec is to help people easily identify if they need a wide board, or if they are kidding themselves with the boots they're trying to squeeze onto a short board

Buy bindings based on your boot not the board.

@bseracka @LoveyourbodyLarry I understand, but for my 10 boots the chart suggests M or L. Should I go bigger or smaller?

Have you tried calling Burton and asking them for a recommendation?
My hunch is that they might tell you to go with a size medium. Your board is not a wide option, so why not go with the medium’s? A Burton size 10 boot should fit nicely into a medium Cartel binding.
I think part of the reason for the overlap in the size recommendation is because they can’t speak for other boot companies’ sizes (reduced footprints, other brands’ sizes might be all over the place, etc.).

I have Adidas Tactical ADV 10.5 US and Burton Malavita M. Not exactly your setup, but ADVs have a similarly reduced footprint as Rulers and both Cartel and Malavita's have a boot size 8-11 recommended for the M size. I prefer M size because its lighter and there still seems to be some some room for enlargement.

If you have the mediums and they fit fine, then stick with the mediums. 10 is kind of in that weird spot that can go either way. I used to ride size 11 boots so I bought a set of large cartels, I sized down to size 10 a few years ago and don’t have an issue with the large. I actually tried a set of mediums but the adjustments were almost maxed out which I didn’t like so I stuck with the large. So you just have to play with it.
