Experienced snowboard instructor to teach beginner riders ages nine, seven and seven at Okemo mountain this Friday after Thanksgiving. We are looking for someone for at least the first half of the day. Possibly full day depending pricing and instructor schedule.

Please call Patrick at 212-370-7700 and leave a message.

Thanks

I see, just curious. Be careful hiring out "private" instructors. I'm sure you'll be fine for a one-off but we had a couple issues within the last two seasons where we had to wrist-slap a few folks who were obviously giving lessons to people who weren't their friends/family.

This one guy kept showing up with a group of teenage boys. The interesting part was the instructor was a former employee who had quit the previous year. The mountain quickly caught up with him and it was basically a "you stop instructing on our mountain immediately or we'll ban you, permanently."

I'm pretty sure it is a violation of resort policy to freelance instruct without being affiliated w/ the resort itself. There might be state laws against it as well. I believe its a liability issue, not to mention the cash that could be going to the resort's designated ski school program.

Thanks for the heads up - I didn't even think of that. We wanted to line something up before we get up there. All three of these guys are first timers and I would prefer they get started on the right foot. Ill see what happens - thanks again for the input.

Could always pay in beer, nothing against that! :D

Lots of people "teach" their friends, but there's no money/barter involved...

No problem. It sounds like you have the right intentions, but just wanted to help out

I actually looked into it some more and yes, it can be considered "theft of services." If there's money changing hands, its a punishable crime.

They'll also stick out like a sore thumb b/c 1) they're really young and the instructor will most likely be older and 2) like you said, there's no ski school yet.

Now, if you were to somehow get the kids to call him "uncle mike/aunt margaret" all day I'm sure you'd be fine...ha. Good luck.
