I've had some nasty sprains from overextending the ligaments in that area. The last time it happened when my binding strap came loose coming off a rail. My toes almost touched my shins. The xray and mri didn't pick up any fractures although it cracks like hell when i rotate it. I pt'd it and do the balance board and band work to get it back. It didn't stop me from snowboarding though it wasn't pleasant the first few times.
UUhhhh if you live in Canada why don't you get it checked out?
Fractures are usually to deal with (Exceptions of course) If you have pain regardless of movement, Pain while you're lying down, or completed at rest/night. I would start leaning more towards a fracture.
I mean you could always just tap around the area with your finger, if it hurts a lot it's more likely a fracture.
Keep in mind stress fractures are only seen on X-rays when they get REALLY bad. CTs or an MRI is needed to accurately see it. A lot of times it won't change the treatment protocol, which is rest for 4-8 weeks, maybe even a walking boot cast
