So I Thought This Was Supposed to be the Snowiest Month For Us

I have been keeping my eye on the weather pretty much daily this season and the latest weather outlook has me feeling like it is the beginning of this season all over again. Warm weather and bluebird days as far as the forecast can predict. What happened to all our snow in Colorado? :dunno: I was hoping some of our weather gurus on this site can weigh in on this or at least have someone tell me something positive to fill me with a false sense of hope for massive spring snow in the Rockies this year however doubtful it may be.

It is the snowiest month, but there are a handful over the 21 years I've been here where we got next to nothing. It looks like the chance for snow returns next Friday. I'm going on my splitboard trip to Washington that day, so it'll probably nuke. You're welcome...

The first half of March looks like a complete bust. Hopefully the second half of March and April come through for us.

If not, oh well. It'll be an early hiking/backpacking/fishing season. At this point, I could give a fuck which occurs.

"We have a weak and weakening La Nina SST pattern in place right, weakening now, and expected to possibly become an El Nino SST pattern this summer 2012. An El Nino pattern often means greater than usual thunderstorm and shower activity for the summer. CM" from snowforecast.com

goddamnit.

looks like more 1am starts this summer.

I'm hoping winter is over at this point. After having two powder days the entire season, I just want it over and to start new activities in the hills

What a bummer

When I broke NY leg I was hopeful for late season riding... now I gave up... unless some fluke gives us a huge dump in early April I'm done. Bring on the hiking, biking, camping and white water.

Has the season in colorado really been that bad? Since january it's turned around quite a bit here in Utah, not a memorable year but I've had at least 10 legit powder days of over 8" ranging all the way up to a couple over 20"

Still lots of fun out there

I've had at least 10 maybe 20 legit powder days this season in Colorado. People just aren't getting it when the getting is good. The past month of February has been money.

Of course now that the moisture maker is turned off, it's all shit, doom and gloom.

Still a lot of season left. If March stays dry then I'll call it a bust.

Hmm, not trying to argue here, but maybe I don't know what you call a powder day, or maybe because u BC alot you go where I can't. I know out west (west of Vail, Steamboat) and down south they had plenty of snow, but for my cheap lil Summit Value Pass (Keystone/Breck/ABasin) there have certainly not been 20pow days, and only 10 if u call 2inches of fresh a pow day. I ride Mon, Tues, Wed and Fri every week its worth the trip, but its hardly been half the time.

I still have a blast but there hasn't been shit for pow in summit county.

Funny, just had a large group of people spend a week in Summit County. Everyday was a powder day that week. It was the snowiest week of the season, and it may go down as the best week of the season too. Summit has had the short end of the stick compared to other areas. Winterpark, Vail Valley, and Steamboat had been doing solid in February.

It is also true, I don't ride resorts, which means I am not limited to 2-3 hills. I've had as far as I want to drive. I'll admit a couple of trips down to Wolf Creek pass helped pad my numbers. :D

Colorado on OpenSnow

That's as ugly as it gets right there, folks. Gonna be warm enough for a lot of melting too.
Like Killclibz said. The snow is supposed to return next Friday (3/16). NOAA confirms this for the Loveland pass area. The Opensnow forecast only goes up to next Thursday. I'm trying to stay as optimistic as possible for March. Who knows, it could end up being an epic March. ....hopefully.

A slight chance of snow showers? We're going to put our hopes in the baskets of a slight chance of snow showers in a forecast almost a week out?

It's another cut off low. It's probably going to dive south again just like every other cut off this season. Don't hold your breath.

I'm tired of being let down. I've decided to take the approach that I think we've seen our last significant snowfall of the season. That way, if we do get some more good snow, it'll be a pleasant surprise instead of the crushing blow of defeat the season as a whole has delivered.

Lol, playing it conservatively I see. I have the opposite approach. This morning I woke up and it was moderately cloudy outside in Denver. I immediately rushed down to the computer to see if by some miraculous chance it was snowing in the mountains.
