switching between stiffer and softer boards

So I bought a Jones Mountain Twin which I really like. I noticed that going at my fastest comfortable "high" speeds this board just plows right through any rough surfaces or crud that I might encounter, which I really like. However, I realize that it's a tad stiffer than your average (rental?) board.

I want to buy a second board during the off season at a cheap price so that when I try riskier elements like jumping and maybe (MAYBE) some jibbing, I don't damage my beloved Jones. I would also make this second board an opportunity to get something different, something softer. I'm looking at the Rome Garage Rocker right now. Focusing on spending very little here.

Would switching back and forth next season between a softer and a stiffer board somehow be detrimental to learning? Any cons to what I'm thinking of doing?

Any input is appreciated!
