I know Tahoe can be feast or famine and difficult to predict with snow, but I'm trying to decide when to go. The two options are 1/30- 2/3, or 2/27-3/3. I only snowboard midweek on non-holiday weeks. Just figured I ask people who are more familiar with that area before booking. I'm coming from northern Vermont, so I know I'll love the terrain and hopefully get a pow day.
GregT943 you still coming out 2/27? Friggin big storm forcast to be rollin in monday. During storms K2 and Red dog are the best bets. Forget touring, it's going to be too deep and likely too dangerous. Enjoy some Tahoe extreme conditions.

Edit: I just realized you'll be here for a week touring could be great over the weekend.

I left the splitboard at home, so no touring on this trip. I just got into Grass Valley a few hours ago. I'll be heading up Monday morning. I'm just really hoping they don't close 80. Looks like it will be pretty epic this week. Really looking forward to it.

Get on the road early. They are really good at clearing 80 but whiteouts from high winds make driving impossible.

"Blizzard Warning, blizzard conditions expected. Total snow
accumulations of 2 to 3 feet, except 4 to 6 feet above 7000
feet. Winds gusting as high as 55 mph with over 100 mph along
Sierra ridgetops."

This is a life threatening situation. Do not attempt to travel
during blizzard conditions! Road crews and first responders may
not be able to rescue you. Stay indoors until the snow and wind
subside. Even a short walk could be deadly if you become
disoriented.

Ended up getting a room for an additional night and came up yesterday morning. Made it through before they closed 80, slow going with chains. Epic powder day this morning, rode the terrain off of Red Dog this morning. There was a short break in the weather this morning. Just came in because visibility is now an issue. Should be another epic day tomorrow and wednesday.

Be careful what you wish for. And storm is only 1/2 way finished! Pretty epic storm. Another big storm this weekend is forecast. My house is already buried. Literally. 3' in 24 hrs on top of the 3' thursday, friday and Sunday. Its overhead out there.

Today was amazing. Lifts were delayed a few hours because they literally needed to dig them out, and they mostly opened lower mountain lifts. It was insanely deep, 5 feet of dry light fluffy powder. First time I have experienced conditions that deep. My wife managed to get stuck once and it took her a solid 20 minutes to dig out and get going. Awesome powder day. Hoping to get some more fresh tracks tomorrow as they open up more of the upper mountain terrain.
