ThirtyTwo TM-2 Double BOA - Boot Fit

Hey guys!

I’m wrecking my brain over whether or not the boots I just got fit me well. I’ve measured my feet to the T following instructions (the wall and paper method) and using WiredSports tool to figure out my size. Here are the details:

Length: 281mm (R) / 280mm (L)
Width: 111mm
Street size: 44
Style: Freeride (with some jumps here and there)
Level: Advanced/Expert
Previous boots: Burton Moto 10.5 (from like 15 years ago). Fit well.

I just got a pair of ThirtyTwo TM-2 Double BOA boots in Wide 11 (that’s all I could find in stock at this time that would work for me). Strictly looking at mondo sizes I should be a 10.5 max but I was hopefully that I could swing 11 somehow. After having tried them on I actually think they might be a good fit but need your professional guidance.

Basically when I just put them my toes are jammed in (not painful but full firm pressure). When I push my heel all the way back and bend knees the contact seizes and I can very slightly just brush my big toe against the front (contact is actually not dead centre front but more on 45 degree angle with side). The boots feel amazing otherwise and zero heel lift currently. Should I keep or just rent and wait until I can buy in a size smaller?

Many thanks in advance!!

My right foot is 27.7ish cm and I wear a 9.5 in the wide version. I'm confident that you can wear a 10. I didn't heat mold and wore them around the house for several hours over the course of a week to break them in. At first they made my toes go numb after 20 minutes, but after a few days of riding I can wear them 8 hours straight with no issues.
According to the evo Ski Boots Size Chart & Mondopoint Conversion | evo
You should be a solid 28/10 boot. Additionally, both ime and the forum wisdom is that 32 liners pack out .5-1.0 size and packing out a full size has definitely been my experience with 4-5 pairs of 32's over the decades.

Imo, this tells me, these boots are a size too big...especially if you are at your stated advanced/expert level of riding...you will not be able to get a performance level fit with the size 11...PERIOD. Even with heavy mods to the liner to suck up the volume there will simply be too much slop once the liners pack out. Again ime, after about 5-8 days of riding which may feel comfortable...after that good luck getting anything but sloppy wtf fit.

Thanks guys! Really appreciate the insight!

I read on various forums and reviews for these boots that they run half a size too small hence my thinking that I should probably stick to 10.5. But I see you both voted 10. I'm assuming if I go with that size and try these on at the store I'll have my toes jam-packed against the front even if I fully bend my legs forward. Is this basically what I'm aiming for when trying out boots at the store?
You have the rumors backwards...I don't ever recall folks saying that they are sized 1/2 size too small. It's your feet, just giving you my experience 32 liners packing out a significant amount. Btw the entire liners pack out...just not the toe area. So you also need to account for the heel pocket packing out. Again ime, after 5-6 days of riding the liners will start to feel loosened (the very first few days with or without heat moulding will be painful) and at 12-15 days of riding (without mods) they will be SLOOOOPY. At that time, you will need significant mods to prevent your foot from sliding forward and to get your heel to hold. This is why I recommended the 10's. AND btw even the 10's after packing out will need some mods to get to get a performance fit.

Tips about trying on boots in the store...only use very thin liners or your gf's nylons (not socks)...best would be bare feet. Perhaps bring a small 2x4 piece of wood to put under the toes of the boot when you have them on (and the inner laces and cuff boa cranked down...if you don't crank these down you won't get your heel to set back in the pocket...don't worry about the foot boa, just slightly snug it) and this will give you more of the fit feel for when your knees are bent and riding. Also you might seriously consider to bring your own aftermarket foot beds to put in (take out the shitty stock insoles, they are trash)...at least that is what I do. With trying on in the store, you have to anticipate the packing out of the liner. Rest assured, trying on the boots are going to be tight and perhaps significantly uncomfortable...but you have to anticipate the packout with all intuition liners and with 32's.
