I'm wondering if I can get away with sharpening my board with only a straight file wrapped about 5x with electrical tape to simulate a 4-5 degree angle. Would it just do more harm than good without using the deburring stone, ect? Just wanted to do a quick edge sharpening for riding on Friday. Thanks!

You mean like this guy tells you to?

Yea, you can do that but it's not going to be consistent whatsoever. A handheld file guide is hard enough to be consistent with, I can't imagine doing that. If you want to do a quick sharpening, get a real base edge file guide and side edge file guide.

The deburring stone (gummy stone or diamond stone) are just for cleaning up edges or finishing edges after retuning.
