This is kind of an interesting question. I have always wondered why they don't use 304 or 316 stainless steel for edges. Would require less maintenance and last longer.

I always figured cost was why not all boards use stainless steel but there really isn't THAT much metal... I can understand why it would jack up the price of a car exhaust... but not a snowboard.

If I'm not mistaking I believe my Supermodel X has stainless edges.
Correct.

Consider the life a board. Other than jibbers when was the last time you retired a board cause of the edges? The steel they use now is cost effective for the expected lifespan of the product.

Yep, because if all the board was made with stainless steed we would be using one board for a 4-5 years. And now we change board every 2-3 years.
Now not only me hates marketing guys? ;)

They still rust though
Magnetic stainless? We use mag and non-mag ss at work, magnetic for exteriors and non-mag ss on the interiors, precisely because mag ss will rust.
