Last year, there was NOBODY at the resort that Sunday. It was GREAT.

To be fair, it was a Giants/Pats game and I was at Killington, normally frequented by fans of either team, but still. I expect similar conditions, since most people watch it anyways.

:D Nice, hell yeah, I'm in Nor Cal, so with the extreme amount of Niner fans im thinkin it should be good.

I wouldn't count on Squaw to be empty! Everytime I've gone this year, including last weekend the traffic has been nuts by Squaw & Alpine. My pass is to to Homewood, I have to run the gauntlet just to get to the lake road. Good luck, maybe the Bay Area peps will stay home and watch the game.
About that "Pow" don't count on it, I check Opensnow.com's Forecast everyday. Monday January 28th, "Most of the forecast models have the next system approaching this weekend splitting with a piece going into Canada and the other cutting off and sitting off Baja California again. The latest GFS run holds the trough together and brings it into the Pacific NW. The next system rolling across the Pacific will arrive around the middle of next week. Most forecast models still show it pulling in moisture from the system off Baja and bringing us a decent sized storm".

Yeah, I think Alpine might be good but I guess Squaw is having a huge superbowl party...We will see and thanks for the weather update.

Squaw is going to have a lot less traffic on Sunday. You can count on that. Come 2pm, I bet it'll feel like week day traffic. Everyone that is staying in the 'ho is going to be wanting to claim their bar seating long by then. It does knock down on hill traffic without a doubt. Mostly cause people like me want to watch the game. Though, if it's going to be a huge powder day where I live, I might just have to miss the first half. Considering how sucky it's been around here, you have to take advantage...

Darn it, it's next Sunday! And I can't go because of... other reasons. I couldn't care less about the SuperBowl, I'd rather be out riding. But instead I'll be... probably moving... and helping fix fencing stuff. Yay! :icon_scratch:

I can't wait, mostly because I don't give a shit about the Ravens or the Niners. Normally I'd still watch but I really can't muster ANY excitement for this game.

THE TAHOE DAILY SNOW

Good Morning Tahoe,

Relatively warm out this morning in the mid 20's. We are going to to be stuck on repeat for the next week with sun and highs in the 40's. If you like soft snow and warm sun it will be great weather. If you lives for storms like I do it is a continued snooze zzzzzzz.

Still on track for a storm next wednesday. Not looking like a big storm but enough for a powder day and to bring some much needed freshness to the slopes. That is the only weather of interest right now, so I will be stuck on repeat talking about it over the next week.

Good news is that the MJO is finally on the move over the past 2 days. Hopefully in another week it is moving out of phase 8 and into phases 1-2-3. Those are cold and stormy phases in February. The PNA forecast is neutral but that is a change from positive. I think you will see a swing to negative and increased storminess on the forecast models as the MJO progresses later in the month.

Although we have had a lack of snow in January we are still doing well for snowfall this season. Let's take a look at this date in the season over the last 5 seasons at Squaw. 07/08 - 294 inches, 08/09 - 191 inches, 09/10 - 272 inches, 10/11 - 293 inches, 11/12 - 82 inches. So far this season Squaw has picked up 266 inches. That is only 27 inches behind 10/11 which was the big 800 inch season.

In 10/11 we saw a snow drought from Dec. 29 to Feb. 16. If we can get some snow before the 13th we could be right on track. The snow will come....BA

Yeah for sure, I did the alpine/squaw pass last year. But with kirkwood added to the epic pass couldn't pass that up. Kirkwood for pow days and northstar for cruising and spring park laps!

:icon_scratch: Funny, I did the opposite, I've had the Northstar Kirkwood HEav pass but decided to opt for the Squaw alpine this year. I love Kirkwood and Northstar is a great groomer park mountain with some good steaps on the back side.

I cheaped out, got the local Homewood deal for $249! Love the POW, parking 20ft from the lifts and the good vibe! However, I really miss Kirkwood's killer terrain & the long runs! Might go back to KW next year....
