WTF is "extreme video game playing"? Is it playing extreme video games or is it playing video games while dropping into a halfpipe?

Don't get me wrong, I enjoy playing video games myself, but who the fuck wants to watch someone else play video games?

The extreme video gaming he's referring to is called Major League Gaming (MLG). The industry has been making a shit ton of money the past few years and grows more each year. Games like Call of Duty, World of Warcraft, League of Legends, and Starcraft II all have MLG circuits. Halo used to back when Halo 3 was the big game.

Looks like X Games is just doing a Call of Duty tournament.

Does MLG belong in the X Games? Hell fucking no, but is it smart from a business and money making point of view? Hell fucking yes.

watching others game is becoming huge, because actually playing is not quite sedentary enough

regardless, its got nothing to do with being a sport, therefore it's not got shit to do with xgames, or shouldn't, imo

I'm just shocked that people would want to watch others play a fucking video game. Is this real life? Y'all being serious right now? Fuck, I feel like I'm getting trolled hard here.

^^This. Nobody likes watching people play video games unless they are in the rotation to play. And I thought IGN tried doing this but it failed.

On that note, my friend's brother is on the Swiss gaming team. He lives for free and basically just games for a living. I'd be ok with that if they supplied the weed and occasional lap dance or escort (pretty sure girls don't go into the gaming house due to the smell of stale Mountain Dew and butt sweat).

sorry but xgames didn't not suck

I don't see how it is any different watching video games or sports.

I'd rather watch Starcraft tournaments than most mainstream sports. I don't spend much time doing either.

Sometimes I get up in the middle of the night to watch Koreans duke it out in SC2. I do the same thing for English Premier League Football. Lots of 5-7am sundays.

Watching someone else play ANYTHING - as opposed to doing it yourself - is intrinsically loser-esque.

The only difference is that mainstream society has accepted the binge drinking frat-boy mainstream sports nerd and labeled him otherwise (God knows why other than so I can justify my antisocial lifestyle).

I'm sorry I realize that some of you are major bad asses because a bunch of guys you have nothing in common with play american football or fight mma on the TV. This is addressed to all the other pussies, not you bad asses.

LOL.

obviously you all have not heard of twitch tv. ignorance is not a good excuse, no matter how American.

South Koreans will sweep the podium. They stay up for days at a time playing Eve Online while their babies die of starvation. Now that's extreme gaming.

Esports is cool. It takes a ton of skill to win (as it doesn't take much effort to practice) and honestly is fun to watch. However, why is it in the extreme games...

eSports don't belong in a venue like X-Games that's plain and simple. Does it have its place? Sure.

To put them on the same level as someone hitting Mega Ramp puts down physical talent and training.

Classic example last month I smoked one of the top 100 CoD players in the world with ease. Guy was so butt hurt he was sending me death threats to my inbox and berating me on the headset. Guess he couldn't fathom a casual player would beat him repeatedly. Talent? Maybe, but more likely just a lot of time to learn the intricacies of a video game.

The way I look at it this is X Games way of trying to make a festival for all sorts of people but in the end it will backfire.

Todd Richards said it best "Will the gamers complain about the couches like the athletes complain about the courses?"
