I did 1" pipe - 5 next to each other screwed to a 2x6x8.

 

I was more along the line on a single round pipe, but how does the pvc slide?

Remember a couple threads awhile back with pics.........try the search function.

 

I used 1 1/2" PVC three across. Two lengths of 8' end to end. I made sure there was no lip in the middle. According to my tailbone it slides completely fine with or without snow.

 

PVC slides really well, but remember to keep it indoors in the summer, it can wear down super quick in the sun. Remember to sand down the ends of the pipe. It will be super slick, will surprise you.

Go with steel. PVC wears out and is brittle as hell in cold.

 

For a backyard setup its pretty hard to beat the cost and ease of use of pvc, unless you have a background in working with steel and have the tools and can get it cheap.

I do think you are better off using multiple 1" as opposed to a single 4" or whatever. The thickness if the same so you'll have a little better luck distributing weight across multiple.

 

White pvc slides awesome. Just get two smaller ones and screw them into a long 2x4 with the frame to make a flat bar! We did this and it was awesome!

 

If you can get your hands on a corrugated tube these are awesome in your back yard to!

 

Where can you buy a corrugated tube?

Pipe Corrugated Plastic Drain

 

That large corrugated pipe looks pretty good.. we used a 12" sewer drain for a few years until buddies dad used it to fill in a ditch lol..

Worked really goo, I just wish we had made a base to get it higher off the ground, but we were(are) still noobs so it's for the best

 

I got that corrugated tube at Menards for around $100. It was a great investment!
