Looking to make a backyard rail out of pvc pipe. I was thinking 6 inch diameter, and a foot high. Has anyone done this before? Any recomendations on diameter? White or green pvc? How well does it slide?

I used 1 1/2" PVC three across. Two lengths of 8' end to end. I made sure there was no lip in the middle. According to my tailbone it slides completely fine with or without snow.
PVC slides really well, but remember to keep it indoors in the summer, it can wear down super quick in the sun. Remember to sand down the ends of the pipe. It will be super slick, will surprise you.
For a backyard setup its pretty hard to beat the cost and ease of use of pvc, unless you have a background in working with steel and have the tools and can get it cheap.
I do think you are better off using multiple 1" as opposed to a single 4" or whatever. The thickness if the same so you'll have a little better luck distributing weight across multiple.
