Isn’t the purpose of demos to try out next season’s stuff? Least that is how it’s been where I am riding in Japan. They like to encourage people to pre-order.

I saw them being demo-ed today at my local resort, and plan to try them out tomorrow.

I think that they might all be here (I know for sure that the Bataleon and 32 were there; my friend tried the 32 today).

I am not 100% sure if I will have time to try them all, so I am here mainly to ask about the characteristics of the various bindings, even if it’s just the non FASE base form so I can prioritize.

I will most definitely try the Jones (if they have it) and the 32.

One more question: Does every manufacturer use their own proprietary ladders on their FASE bindings? I know that FASE binding use longer ladders that I am most likely not going to be able to find in the small shops at my local resort (until / unless they really take over the marketplace), but I wonder if I was to buy spares in advance for a pair of bindings (say, Jones FASE bindings), would they work on 32 FASE bindings?
FASE does allow the brands to incorporate there own ankle ladder design. if the FASE ladder does break, the rider can swap the ladder out with another ladders temporary. for example, if the long ladder on a Jones FASE binding break, the riders could use a regular 2 strap Jones ladder until a FASE Jones ankle ladder becames available to them.

Well, I got to try the 32's FASE binding today. One of the things I've found out is that not every company are coming out with smaller bindings next season. In fact, not a single one amongst Bataleon, 32, Rome and Jones had one for demo, and as far as I know, for Jones and 32 we are going to have to wait until 26-27. Bataleon confirmed that they'll have it before next season but just didn't have them ready for demo. Didn't speak to Rome, but looking at pre-orders, "Small" / "Small-Medium" are mysteriously sold out almost everywhere minus one place, making me suspect that they also aren't being made for 25-26 and the lone online shop might have put that size up for order by mistake (don't quote me on this, it's just a guess).

Anyway, my 24.5 boots were not really ideal for the 32's I tried, and there was quite a bit of space near the toe straps... though it wasn't moving all over the place and I had no problem doing spins on small features. I do appreciate the convenience over traditional bindings.. And actually, I found it in a way easier than the Supermatics bindings (which I tried for half a day earlier this season). Now as far as putting the bindings on, the Supermatics wins hand down, but I remember that on a cold day with kinda oversized mittens (more accurate to say that my hands are very small and a lot of gloves/mittens end up oversized), I sometime struggled a little with the levers for release, and straps are much easier. The other thing is that position of the levers (on the inside rather than outside - I guess to prevent accidental release) also kinda make it more cumbersome to reach). Both issues might be resolved with practice, but with FASE, it's super easy to get out.

Now due to the spring condition, I didn't really get to try out in all kind of condition notably what happens if you need to release / put back in deep pow. And I didn't really get to put to the test putting on the bindings while in motion (on a pow day at my resort, there is a bit of a mad rush to the top involving multiple lifts and after skiers, people on Step Ons are pretty hard to beat, and I wonder how FASE will stand up in this situation.

Due to the size limitations though, I am likely going to skip FASE next season and might wait for the tech to mature a bit before jumping into it (see how people report on reliabilities, availability of spare parts and that kind of stuff).

By the way, I think that one of Jones binding's "thing" is Skatetech, which won't be on their FASE bindings. Can anyone speculate if there are obvious reasons why the technologies are simply incompatible, or if there are no obvious reasons (in which case one might hope for future implementation).

your size 42.5 should fit the M/L bindings. do you realise there are 2 positions for the 32 FASE toe ladder? you may have had the ladder in the large position. 🤔

you are correct that there will be no size small for FASE in the 25-26 season. one of the reasons the FASE team consisted mainly of males.

also the FASE does work with skatetech. the brands were unsure of the demand for FASE, until they were launched. but are now scrambling to meet all the demands now it has been widely accepted.

They were set in the small position. However I am 24.5cm; we use cm in Japan. Which I believe correspond to 39 EU. Definitely smaller than what the binding is designed for.

Bit weird that the Mercury FASE doesn't have Skatetech then. Here's hoping that have it for 26-27 (along side S-Size bindings).

ok, was looking at 24.5 EU. my bad. definitely be small size FASE for 26-27.

That's a bummer about available sizes. I guess I'll have to pull the trigger this sale season on a pair of new strap bindings while we wait on FASE. I've been riding on M Rome Vices and I can tell they're the wrong size. Also tried some M Cartels and had to size down for those as well.

I also believe that Rome indicated that the asym wrap (I think that's what you mean by "skate tech") will still be incorporated on their FASE products.

Asym wrap and skate tech are two different technologies. Skate Tech uses a "kingpin" to let the baseplate kind of rock on the board for better edge engagement. Asym wrap is just a one sided binding heelcup that provides more lateral movement.

Yeah, I think I'll get another regular binding too (I have three bindings but two of them are 6 season and 7 season old respectively). TBH, I am rarely an early adopter, and might wait and see if anyone notice obvious quirk in the 1st gen that'll quickly get ironed out the following year. But I do want to point out again that Bataleon said they'll have smaller size available at launch, so if you are fine with those, they are an option.

Ha, you were totally correct. Do you have any experience with skate tech? If so, did/do you like it or not?

Any of the initial release of the Fase bindings full size disc? Looks like no but maybe someone here has more insight?

Not gonna lie, this may be what gets me into step-in bindings. The brand support is insane, footprint looks small.

Did this little side video to help explain the FASE system in more detail. Will have another one coming soon answering the most important and most popular questions I’ve been getting in the comments. Hope it helps 👍
