I was just browsing through Liftopia and Plattekill has a deal on there to rent the whole mountain for $3,000 per day. I didn't think it would be that inexpensive to rent it for the whole day and I don't know how good the mountain is since I've never been but still thats pretty awesome. Any chance we can get 80-100 people to sign up?

Info:
This offer affords you private, exclusive access to Plattekill Mountain for a day for up to 250 guests (additional charge for more than 250 people). All facilities are at your disposal - lifts, rentals, food and beverage and more!

I can probably get at least 6 people and as many as 10. I'll put this up on the general meets too, if there is enough interest it would be awesome to coordinate something like this. It would be a logistical nightmare but renting a mountain for the day sounds great.

I would even do it if we only got fewer than 100...

60 people: $50pp
70 people: $43pp
80 people: $37.5pp
90 people: $34pp
100 people: $30pp

Sorry was in and out of meetings all afternoon so I couldn't check on this. I guess this may actually work out if we can get through some hurdles. I would even do it if we had 40-50 people. With tax its $2,700 so less than $60 to board all day without any lines or people.

Thats probably the easiest way but I like the below idea about ChipIn. The only problem is that paypal charges a feel so we can do $60pp and then if we get more than 40 people we can figure out a refund strategy for the excess money

Try this: ChipIn

ChipIn does not charge any fees to organizers and contributors of events that send payments directly to the Organizer’s PayPal account. However, PayPal Premier or Business accounts may be subject to fees from PayPal.

And if you don't get enough money/participants I think you can just refund everyone.
Yes, it would be great to use ChipIn. I'll look into maybe starting this tonight.

Other things to consider:

A weekend day would be much better, but is that even an option? And if yes at what price?
What are the hours of operation of the mountain?
Will everything be opened? All lifts & Trails? Places to get food?
Who's liable in case something bad happens?
I'll get on the phone with Plattekill and figure out all the details but from what I can see its only on weekdays, M-Th 8:45-4:15. Everything will be open and its just like any other day on the mountain, the resort is liable. Its gotta be a win-win for them since they are closed on weekdays anyway.

Like I said I'll get some details and update the first post. I know for a fact that I can probably get as many as 15 people but realistically about 10. I think we can pull off getting 40 people to pay and commit so the hardest part would be payment collection which would be solved by ChipIn.

The reason they only do it Mon-Thurs is because the mountain is closed every day besides Fri/Sat/Sun unless they get a ridiculous dump then they may open during the week.

This is one of those small NY mountains that can truly be a hidden gem if the conditions are right. I didn't make it there last season but 2 years ago I was there with a couple of friends on friday we played hooky from work because it was a pow day and I think there was maybe 10 other people on the mountain with us. It's small but because it's not crowded you can shred the shit out of it.

Idk if it's possible to do "holiday" type days for instance the day after new years which is a Monday I have off and I bet a lot of other people will have off and it's not techinically a holiday. So to keep the weekend people happy selecting a day like this may be best? So if you could ask Plattekill about a day like that or the day after xmas those may be the best turn out.

Has anyone come up with a date yet? I know I'm new here but I'll throw out Dec 23rd as I don't think it's part of the holiday yet. I can scrape up atleast 3 people plus myself. I'd also suggest throwing it on a bunch of different towns' craiglists to generate more interest. Even at 100+ people, you pretty much have the place to yourself. No little rugrats or disgruntled parents.

Alright I got some details from Plattekill, apparently theres only one person working there until they open.

The total price is $2500 for any M-Th Jan-March. I can get a tax exempt certificate from my work so there will be no tax on anything for us that day. Everything with insurance, etc is the same as a regular day. The money is just used for the employees for the day and its like a publicity stunt for them if anything. I'm sure they just break even on these kinds of things.

I'm thinking a Monday would be a good day this way people can just take an extra day for the weekend. I would do it if we can get at least 40 people to commit and obviously transfer the money.

Before I set up a chipin for this and figure out the details of the paypal fees we would obviously need a date set. I'm pretty open but something end of January or beginning of Feb would be ideal for me.

I'm open to some thoughts on days and other options. I say lets do this, I would take a day off to own a mountain. Definitely worth it in my opinion.
