Im 46 years old and looking for another directional camber board that is very damp and forgiving on the knees and back, but still fun and springy out of turns. After reading about the Souly Grail, it sounds perfect. I mostly ride groomers with occasional mild pow or ungroomed runs. I have other boards for real pow. I want something that won't beat me up as much as my Hometown Hero when conditions are less forgiving and groomers are tracked out or chundery. I fluctuate between 195-205, and I can locate a 157 at a good deal, but I'm not sure if it would be damp enough at my weight. Even though it is supposed to be very damp. I think I'm at the high point of the 157 weight. Anyone have experience with a 157 vs 162? I will hold out and look for a 162 if anyone has experience/recommendations. Thanks all.

Look at the good ride review where he flexes the board then look at angry for content.

I'd probably look at the surfari at your weight if you want damp. It's really good. I found that my ravine select is just about as damp.

At your weight, even the bigger surfari will have more flex to it. If you go for the smaller SG, I'd be concerned about your overpowering it at your weight. I just also don't think it makes sense to size down for your purpose.

I was leaning towards that also, my gut tells me I should probably hold out until I find a 162. I just weighed in at 192 today, closer to the 185pds that good ride is at on the 157cm. Even though he said it felt perfect on the 157cm, I usually am more comfortable on a bigger board. Wish they would make a 160cm. I'll keep an eye out for a Surfari. And never looked into a Ravine Select, so I'll check that out also.

I’ve ridden the Surfari 157 at 175lbs and also at 195lbs a couple of years later, don’t ask. I’m the same regarding weight fluctuations especially when work gets in the way….anyway, I digress. The 157 Surfari is perfect around 175 lbs, just loved it but I struggled when closer to 195lbs and overpowered and wished for the next size up. I ended up selling it.

It was still alright off piste and found it still floated me well, just struggled on the groomers with carving

I’m also looking at the SG 162 now as I was of the opinion that the SG had a softer flex than the Surfari similar sizing, just waiting for sales. Maybe I’ll look at the Surfari again, I did love that board.

I rode the 162 (when it first came out), I'm 205ish lbs. It was way too soft for my liking, I was really able to man handle it. It was a blast riding powder in tight trees being all surfy, not an aggressive carver and sucked in chop (beat me up). Just my opinion, I couldn't imagine riding the 157.
