That and the Alternator sound like great boards And I reckon if I was fit enough or in my 20’s or 30’s they’d be the go to.

Enjoy the conditions.

Did I hear there was a mini-avalanche at Perisher today and someone got caught up? Hope all ended well.
it was pretty mellow. some skier slashed a weak section of slab and it let go for ten metres or so, by the looks of it. it was not deep, super steep, or in a high consequence kind of area.

Just pulled the trigger on a 165 Burton Gril Master as a replacement / addition for my 159 nitro magnum.
Will have to wait for our Japan trip in late Jan to try it out.
Where are you going?

In Canada, we'd just call that sluff :p
Lol I was gonna say, I've been caught in bigger sluff than that out of bounds at Whistler

Well that's it, that is all...

My season is over, bring on Japan 🤟

That was a great 3 days to end the season, powder on day 1 then 2 more days of spring slush and clear blue skies riding with a couple of my mates.

It's worth mentioning that I finally started getting some air again for the first time since my knee injury.

Sorry for the crappy photo.

that's a great air shot - shows you've still got the chest-over-the-knees/board thing going! you look like you might have been going for a slow-to-late back 180?

hope you had a beaut day!my next day is probs this Monday. then hopefully Thursday, depends on the light, really.

what troubles me is the first photo you posted - standing next to the Aeronaut with your bibs on - do the makers of those bibs intentionally design the bottom of the front fly zipper like that?

that's looking quite suggestive, not to mention paying $$$ for the zipper to be in the wrong place..... :D

So I just ran a few pics off just 2 runs I did at Blue Cow and Guthega on my best day of the '25 season.

Image

Folks amazingly, this is what the lift lines were like after 15cm plus of powder dropping the night before.

Image

Nothing like the powder that beats nicely smearing through your turns.

Image

On this day when walking to the Mountains my head was racing and I was frantically trying to pick the best areas to attack 1st up to get the best untouched runs. I chose to head up to the upper link between Pleasant Valley, Blue Cow down to the Freedom Chair, Guthega. Here there are a fair few trees I love hooking off to the left to negotiate through.

Image

And here we go....., gee for Australia, can it get any better than this?

Image

Got to keep the speed up in these conditions.

Image

Gee I'm not going back on the track...., folks quick right turn back into the trees.

Image

Thanks for leaving this little section for me to smash out.

Image

Hey..., watch those trees?

Image

So I feel the Short Stop was really in its elements having a really good day in these conditions.

Image

Now this was a day in Australia I won't forget for a long long while.

Just thought I'd post another 10 pictures of the week just gone by. This may hurt you guys further as you'll also notice that there is absolutely no one else on the Mountain in the pics but me. I kept a look out for JD's board whilst riding but I'd say he had found his own Private Idoha.

Image

Mate, it feels sort of surreal riding Australia in these conditions.

Image

Having to joyfully instantly adjust my riding to a more powder style.

Image

Which is so much easier to slash around.

Image

There were plenty of side banks to throw the tail out on.

Image

It was also nice riding up on the chairs and spotting my trails I'd left through the powder.

Image

Most of the tiny crowd that were here just kept to the main main area's which I was perfectly happy with.

Image

But even in these traffic areas there was still some nice places to unload on.

Image

Nice seeing heaps of snow in the trees.

Image

As well as out in the open.

Image

I sort of feel that maybe JD and myself actually shared a lotto win this day.

@buller_scott it was just a frontside shifty but I did land many front and back ones this week.

Not really sure what you are talking about with the bibs?
Absolutely not mean to be disrespectful-it looks like the Ning Nong print in the front of your bibs is quite healthy.-kudos to you.

Nothing malicious-just having a bit of fun with it

On another note, this coming week could mark my last couple of days of the season

Gonna help Mum move, perhaps next week, when the weather doesn’t look that great up around here

I have been through too many dollars, trying to figure out my ideal set up over the last five years, but I think I might have finally nailed it

-Gnu Banked Country 160w (would have been ideal to get the 163)- mind you, I am on the upper weight range for my size of this deck, and it keeps getting better and better since I have lost about 15 kg since last season)
-Yes hybrid 157 (I would have preferred the 161, but the shorter board makes for really Bendy low-speed carves)
-Yes Greats 159 - that shape is so weird and wonky, but there is so much stability underfoot, that I have to believe that it would be the equivalent to a normal board, 163 to 164 wide. I don’t think I would move this on for a long time. If they made it in a 162, I would get that as well.
-Option Dufficy 2007 - full camber, 159 cm, 128 cm of affective edge, 21 carbon stringers-you pay to play, if you go down on this thing, brother, you are going down-this is what I learnt on, or at least decks like this from back in the day, and I don’t think I could never let go of this thing, even if I could only fetch five dollars when asking people how much my board is worth LOL

thank you for reading, I hope that any of us southern hemisphere people can get at least a couple more sunny days on the snow before the season is out

Yeah, you did – we had big dumps this season, but being above the tree line, light was flat, and it wasn’t nearly as good as that

Good work on getting your ideal set up sorted. If you're anything like me though, you'll be revising the quiver again in the near future! You can't rush these things :D

When does your season end?

Thought I'd keep the NZ side of this thread in the mix...

So, did a South Island trip last week. The conditions are a little bit better down there compared to the North Island, but a lot of the locals were saying that it's not been a good year. Whilst we were there though, we had a storm come through and managed to score a powder day. The days after that were awesome.

Also, demoed a Nitro Dinghy whilst I was down there. And yeah, added to the quiver :giggle:

Looks like this storm also stretched to the North Island so theres a good chance our season should continue up to Labour weekend... 🤞

When does your season end?
My ideal setup is whatever i have, +1 lol

in a big way, i kinda wish the Nidecker family had not parted Yes as freestyle, and Jones as freeride - Yes had some fantastic allmtn decks (before they took on Lobster) - i really wish the Hybrid was allowed to expand to more sizes and alternate tweaks.

I STILL go to that deck many days throughout the season, it’s that good.

Edge tech at the heel/toe contact points, is still the best form of edge tech i have encountered, in my life. Exception being the Gnu Banked Country - that thing is special. Wish Aus retailers would get a 163W here, instead of thinking us Aussies all want 154’s

And MOTLEY! Thanks for reaching out - season ends in a fortnight supposedly, but I’ve gotta drive down to the utter craphole that is Melbourne, to help mum move into her new place.

doing it next week - a high-wind low vis week up the hill, according to the forecast - so not feeling like i’m missing out on much, but gives me fuel to save up and hit theNorthern Hemiseason for ohhh what - 2,3 weeks? Hopefully

and your pics are lovely! How’s it feel to ride actual snow? Lol (i’ve only got25 days this season, it’s either too flatlight or too hard)

Bah. Upon reflection, might take the tiny VW up tomorrow, mount the Seasuckers on the roof (look ‘em up - they’re wonky, but they work very effectively!)

and burn some tyres and brakes heading up the hill. Beauty to Park Entry (realistically approx 28km) is meant to take 42mins according to Google, my record is a smidge under 27.

I need to change my life so that my limit is 20km/h on Sapporo snow roads, in a tiny 700cc big-turbo Kei car lol
