Gee, don't get yourself in a fight for the last available car park. Snow still semi looks okay but the September Spring crowds have been very low really. Guthega and Blue Cow lifts have been shut down with selected ones on Perisher and Smiggins still operational.

Been keeping an eye out on Marketplace for a Wheelie Gig snowboard bag and a Burton [ak] Helitack in Small. Have a fair few people who I do services for who are after a Wheelie Gig type of bag to go overseas. Both hardly come up for sale and especially when I see a wheelie Gig on Marketplace they are sold almost instantly or within a day on sale.

Going to sound a little bit of a dinosaur here. We are going to Japan in Feb '26 for 2 weeks and I wanted to have data for my phone in Japan. I don't need to ring anyone overseas. I use Aldi/Telstra Sim for my domestic service. I use to see people buying Sim cards at the airport in Japan years ago but people tell me you just get an E-Sim now? What is the best process?

I use an app on my phone called "Airalo", can buy esims for any where pretty much and it has the process to install all in the app. Super easy. Used it in Japan last year and Germany and UK this year without any issues

How do you do this process?

I see this is one as well

$Au63 for 12 days unlimited data (basically $Au5 a day).

I just jump on wifi wherever i am and buy a eSIM in the app.

That holafly rate is pretty good, I just had a look in my app and it's showing $75AU for 15 days unlimited data.

As for installing the eSIM, if you use their relevant apps there should just be an install and activate button (true for both holafly and Airalo), otherwise if you buy online you'll get a QR and activation code to install manually which slightly differs if you're on Android or iPhone. It's not hard and really seamless as long as you can follow a 5 point instruction sheet.

I used Ubigi this year. I cant remember the price (it wasnt expensive) and dead easy to set up. Just download an app and follow the instructions.
I'm a bit of a dinosaur as well! :D

Reflection Time?

So Aussies/Kiwi's our snow season down here has just about come to an end with October long weekend next week being officially our last day.

Image

So how did your season fair?

Personally..., I'd give this Winter at Perisher a 7 out of 10 for my experiences. The big positives were the lift lines were almost non existence. Parking was pretty good most of the time. And there was heaps more depth and coverage above the last 2 seasons gone.

I put 15 days on the Mountain and had some bonus nice runs in the rare Aussie Powder.

Just over 4 months rest now till Japan comes calling again, so I'll keep these fantastic memories of our Season present in my thoughts.

I used Ubigi last trip, USD is their native currency so purchase in that and let your card provider do the conversion. There's also a referral program with a discount you can redeem if you make the purchase on the app.

IIRC the period started when it first connected in Japan, I just had to turn on the eSIM in my phone. I'm not a massive data user so the 10GB over however many days plan covered me.

Have a few people I know going overseas to Japan or Canada next year and they are all after a Wheelie Gig type of bag. The stock of these in Aussie retail is extremely low at present so I sent Burton Australia an email and they said their next big container load coming in is November/December 2025 to stock up Aussie retail. Looking on Marketplace or Gumtree Wheelie Gigs are practically non existent and if an odd one comes on, it's sold in a day.

I also asked Burton Au about [ak] Hover Pro jackets and they said they have not got any listed for stock for the next few seasons ie not manufactured any more. I've noticed there are a shit load of Hover 3L GORE-TEX C-Knit Stretch jackets for sale in Aussie retail now at reduced prices.

Well today I believe is the last day of the '25 Aussie Season (Oct long weekend) with Perisher still holding in.

Had a pretty good season this year and stoked that we have Hokkaido locked in in 4 months time.
Sounds like you've done well, and looks like there's still a bit of coverage there.

Our official closing date is our Oct long weekend, the 27th, for the North Island resorts. But I'm not sure we'll get there. Looks like there's a warmer front coming through end of this week with a lot of rain in the mix. I've used all my leave so I'm relying on the weekends now, fingers crossed I get at least one more weekend 🤞

Blast, I've got a spare Dakine Low Roller, but I'm not sure it's worth shipping it...
