Whats peoples thoughts on Bataleon? I was looking at the boss and was wondering peoples experience with 3BT and side kick? They seem like fun boards but im not sure they will be able to hold edge on the East Coast hard pack

Fun boards , great tech. I own 3bt and non 3bt boards, love them both. Truth is as a one board quiver on east coast id look elsewhere. I’ve ridden my boss on Pure Ice many times. Sure it’s fine but I purposely held back.

My Boss has helped me progress greatly in the park, and it carried over to my non 3bt boards 100%. Any specific questions ?

Edit: I Love the Boss, looks like 2021 is stiffer, FYI evo has a ton of last years on clearance. I have this model. $409 is a good price I think it’s $599

@BoarderHack89 After your comments in my other post, I was pretty much sold on the Evil Twin — then I stumbled across the Boss a few times that got me thinking. Reading your posts here make me question even more.

Do you mind giving a bit of a rundown between the Evil Twin and Boss?

I used a Bataleon Omni 2020 exclusively this year on the Australian hard snow ice pack, and it had absolutely no issues laying trenches this year.

Really like the 3BT, but it could be my personal preference. Second time round for a 3BT board now and I have no issues recommending it.

I've only heard the rumors of east coast ice, never experienced. What I know from my local spot is every day the snow melts, and every night it freezes, and we listen to the grind on the chairlift and ride what we call ice every morning until it starts to melt around 1-2 pm, then refreezes again over night. 2-4 pm is when I try to ride, for good reason.

I really enjoy the blade of a non-3BT deck. I really enjoy the forgiving nature of the 3BT in radical short radius turns. It's also my choice for stomping landings. I am not a fan of what I have to do to hold an edge by center weighting 3BT. On non-3BT I can front weight the deck to hold the edge, 3BT not so much. With 3BT back weighting isn't a problem holding an edge. A good rider can ride 3BT in ice but they will be limited. I come back to the fact that I don't like any deck on ice, there's just bad and worse. Pick your poison. I have a Rossi jibsaw HD on the way that is supposed to be a good icey choice, I'll find out soon enough if it's worth it. Something tells me a 3BT will save my ass on jumps in ice, so no matter how much I like the easy to access edge hold of other boards, 3BT may be better if I am jumping in ice.

The magnetraction thing as also somehing you have to like / get used to. I bought a Lib Tech - I think it was the Hot knive - for my brother in law, which I could test out back to back with my Custom X. I was stunned of how much grip the magnetraction really provides. Even though it's got a lot of rocker and a pretty soft / middle of the road flex, it left my CX in the dust in terms of edgehold (Well the edges had to be sharpened on my CX but still...). It grips like mad but I really didn't like the feeling of it. It felt really catchy when swinging the tail around even though it's a rockered board. I could feel the contact points in the back of the board hooking when I turned the board. It wasn't possible for me to get a smooth radial turn going with it. Maybe I could get used to it but the experience of this few runs alone will prevent me from buying a board with any kind of magnetrcation.

If you ride on a hill where there are icy conditions pretty much all the time, I can see this beeing a gamechanger since you don't have to care about ice that much, the board will grip no matter what.

In my experience the 3BT is a love or hate thing. Some swear by it and some don't like it. Me personally, I didn't like it at all. I had an Evil Twin a few years back, which I rode for two weeks then sold it. I just couldn't get used to the loose feeling. It's really weard that you have to lean over your edge way more to get the edges to engage. Like @Paxford said, it's a very different feeling/movement to get the edges to grip at the contact points. To me it always felt like that I didn't have any grip even though it did grip ok - not great though. I like a more direct feeling, I also like traditional camber and stiffer boots / bindings for that reason, so if you like a looser feeling than it might be for you.
It is awesome for buttering / messing around etc though, and I can imagine it would be great in Pow as well.

Lobster is Halldors brand that came from Bataleon but both were owned by Under pressure studio that Nidecker recently bought. Now you can only buy Lobster boards online and will later on be a line in the Bataleon lineup.

To be perfectly honest I really can’t tell the difference. I was in a weird spot someone I knew wanted an evil twin, the boss was on crazy blowout over covid etc so I made the “upgrade”. Pick which one has the best price and graphic you like, That simple. The boss has slightly more camber and is slightly lighter due to some more carbon . Otherwise almost identical
