The high roller is the bag that’s lasted me the longest.
*** Rome sleeves are WAY superior to the Mons product… like not even close.
High roller plus the Rome sleeves equals alllll good!
I like that MONS has sleeves for weird directional powder boards and also ones that completely cover the board. I have heard some people have had issues with MONS tearing, but mine are at least 5 years old and are still going strong. Also $20 cheaper than the Rome sleeves.

MONS bags may be prone to damage when putting damaged edged board inside, otherwise they are superb for dry storage protection.

I manage boots, 2 sets of outerwear, 2-3 boards, 1 pair of bindings, 5 pairs of socks and a big ass screwdriver in mine and always come in under the 50lb weight limit
I got 165 low roller and pack boots, solid, bindings, split, split bindings, backpack, avy gear, poles, helmet, 2 x gloves, pants.. Maby jacket and my bag comes in under 50lb.

The best way to check a loaded bag's weight is to get on a home scale, weigh yourself, and then immediately weigh yourself again holding the bag. The difference is the bag weight. It's really hard to accurately weigh a large, loaded bag by itself.

Also be aware your home scale could be off by a few pounds, which is why we always aim for 45 lbs as a precaution. You could aim for just shy of 50 lbs and know what to transfer out of the bag to a carry-on if the airline say's it's over.

PS - snack bars and other food items are heavy. Get those in CO.
Can't recommend something like this enough. We use ours all the time.

I've got a Dakine low roller, it's great.

+1 for rome sleeve. Just got a low roller after the airlines thankfully killed my old bag that had no wheels (don't ask I was too cheap to get wheels). Haven't had enough long term exp with the Low roller to say anything regarding durability but if you're a 1 board quiver it's great. could easily fit two in there for sure. I also load everything boarding related in that bag minus helmet and it's got space left. Also sizing is a bit misleading the 157 bag fits my 158 board, could likely fit a 159.

hard cases protect better than soft cases from airline workers handling, but also weigh more and costs more.

If you can get the ticketing agent to put a "fragile" tag on the case, the airline worker handling luggage should be a little more gentle with your gear.

the evo roller bag. i also have the burton one with wheels. Both are good, evo is very good bang for the buck if they have your size. $100 with wheels and padding. I think the inside of the burton is more prone to ripping but it's not a huge deal

Ripping from the inside usually happens due to sharp board edges. If this is a concern, let them get dull before the trip or cover them with something that is hard to cut. I only bring one board, so I wrap mine with split foam tubes from the hardware store (no adhesive) and big rubber bands. That's a little harder to do with two boards. The thicker board covers (Rome, etc) are probably good at this too. The thin ones (Mons, etc) might not be as resistant.

The contact points are the key areas to cover if you don't have enough material to protect the full perimeter.

The material difference is significant. Like significant. The sticking is also significantly better with Rome’s.
My son has the mons, I can say the price for the Rome sleeve is worth it.

I would take one of two approaches. If you travel a lot with your snowboard get a really nice bag and take the advice of those above. If you almost never travel with your snowboard wrap it with a combo of cardboard, foam, and duck tape and use any old cheap bag that fits.

Good bags are so cheap on close out why waste the money on a cheap bag and effort to wrap it in cardboard each way.

A tip that’s worked for me: wrap your boards in foam pipe insulation or bubble wrap to protect the edges and stack them with some padding between. For your helmet and goggles, I keep those in my carry-on since I don’t trust them bouncing around in checked luggage. Boots? I toss mine in the bag if I have room, but if space or weight is tight, they go in a carry-on, too. Renting boots isn’t fun.

Also, if you’re flying travel business class, you might get extra baggage perks, which is a lifesaver with gear-heavy trips. The added allowance and easier check-in can make a big difference.

Yep any of the taller bags are really uselessly oversized now with OHS weight limits.

I'd recommend if you can get a mint/good condition Gen' 1 Wheelie Gig on the 2nd hand market they are really good. There are a few around that people buy do one trip and then throw in cupboard/garage never to be used again. The Denier on early Burton bags are a lot sturdier than the present.

Here's a good example. I grabbed this WG 146 in absolute mint condition on Marketplace a few weeks ago for $Au50 ($US31). I scored a few others 2nd hand unused or mint condition in 166 and 156 for $Au100.

I picked up my Dakine Low Roller at a garage sale here in Darwin for $40 IIRC.

It's been great for domestic and international travel. I take a couple of boards, bindings, boots, helmet, googles, outerwear and midlayers with no issues. That's about weight limiting anyway.

I ended up buying the Dakine Hardside Low roller. Basically a big hardcase that weighs 17lbs. it held up great on my trip. got 2 boards 2 bindings and some clothes in there at 48lbs

Looking a replacement bag for air travel with wheels. I have had the Burton Flight Attendant but to be honest it's a piece of shit compared to the previous model. Burton in Australia are offering a store credit which is great. The last model I had was the previous version which although heavier was much more rugged and had no issues but the kids are using them for there stuff. I pack alot of stuff in for a trip and sometimes take 2 board bags for myself.....

Look around for 2nd hand Gen 1 or Gen 2 Wheelie Gig on Marketplace or Gumtree. These are the best on the market for robustness. I have a fair few I've picked up in mint condition for $50 to $100. Ridiculously I have 5 from 146, 156 and 166 just in case one gets damaged but they are rock solid and have never let me down.

Thanks Craig, Agree I have 3 of the wheelie gigs with retractable handles that are awesome had no issues but these are used for my kids now. The Flight Attendant bag is really a piece of shit. I will check the 2nd hand market and also maybe look at the Jones versions. Hope you got to Japan and scored!!

The bag with telescopic handle is the Wheelie Locker (massive). I had one years ago which was unreal but I ended up selling it when airlines dropped OHS bag weight limits from 32kg to 23kg and now run 2 wheelie gigs for family flights instead.
