For those women that feel the cold a little more than the rest you'll definitely want to jump up to the next step above in heavyweight baselayers with the Burton [ak] Baker High Loft™ pants.

The Burton [ak] Baker High Loft™ Base Layer Pants are made with Polartec® High Loft™ fleece in the body with Burton claiming they are their warmest base/midlayer with the additionally features of being ultra-soft, having superb breathability, and highly compressible.

As the Burton [ak] Baker High Loft™ pants are up at the pinnacle in heavyweight baselayers they also have a criminally insane price at $Au249.99 ($US144.45) RRP. I was super fortunate to discover these for my wife recently with the Aussie pre season sales for only $Au90 delivered so I thought, "Mate this is way too good to pass up at that price", especially with her birthday just around the corner.

Anyway I wrapped them up as a surprise present and instantly fell in love with them once tried on. She said they feel like your best ever soft pyjamas and were the most comfortable baselayer pants she'd even had on. She often wears them around the house on cold days so the Burton [ak] Baker High Loft™ Base Layer Pants look like a big winner all round here.

As the Burton [ak] Baker High Loft™ Base Layer Pants are completely sold out in Australian retail I was able to find a used pair in "Spiced Plum" in size Medium in mint condition on Ebay Au from the USA @$Au97 delivered (with exchange rate factored in) which was also a pretty good deal.

The Burton [ak] Baker High Loft™ pants come with a super wide 75mm (3") women's specific contoured waist band with chafe-free seams for comfortable layering as well as a comfy next-to-skin fit.

The fabric layout is a masterpiece in placement with Polartec® High Loft™ in the front and back of the body with it being blocked with Polartec® Power Stretch® Pro™ in the waistband, lower legs, crotch gusset and back yoke area.

In my mind the high level of insulation with the Burton [ak] Baker High Loft™ pants present a barrier that can really combine both base and mid levels together in one perfected single garment.

No doubt the [ak] Baker High Loft™ pants are pretty damn expensive at full RRP for a baselayer but you are grabbing the absolute pinnacle for what Burton can produce in synthetic inner layer warmth for cold weather riding. We live in a World were you always pay for what you get and with the Burton [ak] Baker High Loft™ pants you're getting the outright best your money can buy.

So high above all the rest ⭐ ⭐ ⭐ ⭐ ⭐

I contacted Burton Australia the other day and asked them if we down here ever got the Burton [ak] Baker High Loft™ 1/4 zip top. They said that Australian retail only ever got the pants which I found a bit weird. Anyway I was able to find and grab 2 tops in the USA on ebay Au that are on their way to us now so I'll add their feed back to this review when they arrive in around a weeks time.

So as I mentioned, in our own down under bizarro World, Burton Australia informed me that they never stocked the [ak] Baker High Loft™ Quarter-Zip Fleece Top retail wise only bringing in the pants. These I feel are Burton No.1 premium level base/midlayer synthetic options outside their high end wool line.

The Burton [ak] Baker High Loft™ top had a $US189.95 RRP in 2024 which would equate to just over $Au300 estimated retail in Oz which is quite expensive. I searched around online and was able to locate mint condition Medium and XS sizes in the US via Ebay Australia for just over $AU100 each delivered which I feel was a pretty good score. This enables my daughter to now have the options to ride in her 60gsm [ak] Embark and my wife in her 100/80gsm TNF Lostrail with a decent level of boosted internal protection in sub zero Japan if warranted.

The Burton [ak] Baker High Loft™ Quarter-Zip Fleece Top as a base/midlayer doesn't really have a lot of additional features like you get in jacket.

Image

Burton [ak] Baker High Loft™ Quarter-Zip Fleece Top "Fir Green".

Burton have the [ak] Baker High Loft™ Quarter-Zip Fleece Top manufactured with Polartec® High Loft™ fleece in the body making it their warmest low profile base/midlayer whilst being ultra-soft, very breathable, and highly compressible.

Burton [ak] Baker High Loft™ Quarter-Zip Fleece Top "True Black" side profile.

The Burton [ak] Baker High Loft™ Quarter-Zip Fleece Top has Polartec® Power Stretch® in the arms which keeps it with a nice low-profile for easy layering under outerwear creating the rider to still have a full range of motion. Little details make a big difference with the inclusions of a small zippered side pocket under the right arm enabling storage if required.

Burton [ak] Baker High Loft™ Quarter-Zip Fleece Top "True Black" thumb-hole cuffs.

The Burton [ak] Baker High Loft™ Quarter-Zip Fleece Top has thumb-hole cuffs and chafe-free seams which add all-around utility.

Burton [ak] Baker High Loft™ Quarter-Zip Fleece Top "True Black".

There is no ventilation with the Burton [ak] Baker High Loft™ Quarter-Zip Fleece Top as it's primary use is a low profile base/midlayer however the front zip opens down a fair way which would greatly assist with internal cooling if required.

Burton [ak] Baker High Loft™ "True Black".

The [ak] Baker High Loft™ Quarter-Zip Fleece Top matched with the pants creates an insanely expensive base/midlayer at full RRP but you are grabbing the absolute best that Burton can produce in synthetic inner layer warmth for cold weather riding. I'll let you know how these handle Japan in a few months time.
