Let me start by saying that I would've stuck this in the board selling/buying section of the forum but this isn't a sales post.

Now, here are the details of this shipment.

Firstly, this is a cross country shipment.
Second, I'll go to USPS and get another quote using their click n ship feature.(which sounds like it's almost always cheaper)
Third, I'll change the package size and weight as much as possible from the 61x12x12 they have on the quote. The weight will go up because I still haven't wrapped the board.

Before anyone asks, I've read the previous post about shipping sleds as well as @david_z 's blog post and it's been very enlightening. That said, I'd prefer to shegged as little as possible in the process of shipping. It seems basically impossible given the parameters of this sale but I want to see if anyone has more up to date information to share before the deal becomes untenable.

This is what UPS quoted me:

I'm guessing at best I can get the shipping cost down below $100.00. Any other advice is very much welcome.

Shipping rates are now billed by dimensional weight, not actual weight, unless actual weight exceeds dimensional weight. In other words box size is everything. 61 x 12 x 12 is a MASSIVE box. Are you shipping just a board? If so you shouldn't be over 3 inches deep. If you're shipping a full package, ie boots and bindings it can sometimes be cheaper to ship the board separate to avoid a bunch of wasted dimensional space. A board is probably going to cost at least $60 to ship cross country but nowhere close to what you have posted.

I’ve shipped whitewater kayaks reasonably cheap a few times with greyhound but it’s been a few years so not sure on their current shipping and price structure. Shipping with them worked well based on size and Shape, the biggest challenge is having a greyhound station nearby and both parties being willing to use it

USPS will never be the go to for packages. Envelopes and any flat rate packaging USPS is unbeatable. They actually don't want large parcels where as have you seen shipping rates for envelopes for FedEx? Usually double USPS prices.

If you actively hate the person you're mailing stuff to use UPS Surepost, UPS does all the shipping up until the package reaches the destination zip code, then they deliver it to USPS who takes an extra day or two to process it then they ship it to he actual address, saves shipper money and adds a few extra days to delivery time.
