Is a proto going to feel significantly different than an Evo?

I have a 09/10 NS Evo, bought it brand new. At the time, I was brand new to snowboarding but wanted my own board after renting a few times, and I wanted something that would last a long time. The Evo certainly has, it still looks new. At the time I envisioned myself as someone who wanted to hit rails and play around in the park, but I've come to develop into more of a freestyle/all-mountain type. Mainly because the park features scare the shit out of me.

I have been thinking of selling the Evo to cover part of the cost of a Proto, but have put it off because the Evo has been good enough, even as an all mountain. But as I develop and get better with carving, there are times at speed (not fast, either) when I lean the Evo in and feel like I'm just gonna lose it. This could be a technique thing, I've only been out maybe 20 days in the past 5 years. Weekend warrior to the extreme. So it's hard to justify buying a new board.

Edit* I wish I could demo a proto, but NS doesn't do demos on tiny little hills in Massachusetts.

It won't feel that different. Also, that Evo really holds a pretty damn good edge. Is this the rocker camber variety, or is this before that tech?

If it's the RCR tech, don't bother upgrading, you won't see that much difference. That Evo is basically an all mountain board.

Go the next level up. That used to be an SL, but have no idea what NS is calling that now. Personally I'd try a new brand to really mix it up and keep the Evo. I'd recommend a Lib Tech TRS. Good dampening and stiffer than the Evo with Mag to help you hold an edge as you progress

SL has transformed into the Snowtrooper.

OP - I also don't think you would feel a significant difference. You may notice a few differences between the two...but you could always upgrade your board anyway seeing as your Evo is a good five years old. Or get a board to compliment it.

Being that old, it isn't worth a lot so I'm in the keep the evo and get another board more All mountain freestyle focused. Who knows, you may like having the more playful board and one day get the balls for those boxes and rails and wish you had the evo. I'm pretty set on getting a K2 happy hour for similar riding to what you describe, but also on my list is the Salomon assassin, or man's board for more stiffness, Lib TRS, Burton process off axis, or custom camber and endeavor live.

Unfortunately I don't have the space to keep another board and I don't go often enough to make use of two boards. The SL/Snowtrooper is a great board and I had originally considered it but I like true twins. I would have gotten the proto originally but it came out a year later.. buyers remorse. Ill keep working with the evo I guess. Don't really have the money to throw at a new board now (just got new boots this season and planning on new bindings next season). I tend to be pretty brand loyal to NS, I love my evo despite the fact it might not be 100% right for me.

I would suggest the lib tech skate banana. I have heard that the skate banana was lib techs answer to the never summer evo. I love the sb. It says it is for park. But since u don't go much, this is an all mountain for us regular riders. Plus it will keep u in a similar board flex with more edge hold due to the mag traction. Just a suggestion from a non super human rider.
