Something I Noticed

I've been boarding for the last 8 year and hadn't seen this before. I was recently at a Boarder-X event and in between runs this guy would take off his board and cover the edges in a thin layer of snow. After this, he would walk around it and press it down with his foot as if to seal it off.
I was just wondering if anyone knew why he did this all he said was that he saw it done in Michigan. That and if you know why, what does this do. Any help would be awesome.

P.S. I'm racing tomorrow

he was sealing off the gap in his edges by putting the snow in it then pressing it down with his boot will melt it a little and then with the cold itll refreeze causing it to be ice and stay in there itll ruin your edges even more hence expansion contraction thats why you should keep your board in the garage when its covered with snow or water. but he was simply trying to cover the gap in between his edges so he wouldnt slow down. its not too noticeable but he could prolly notice it.
