Welp, the fuses were good while they lasted

Full disclosure that these were bought as NOS on ebay. Ride told me to take a hike when I emailed asking about warranty support for a known issue, which is what it is and a good reason to buy from a real retailer and not a reseller.

In any event, this is what happened when I grabbed my boots to pack for the first trip of the season. The first tongue was separated even I picked it up and the second came off when I gave it a little tug.

Is this a common failure mode for the ride slime tongue? I can't imagine I had more than 35-40 days on them. Shells still look good and I'm actually using the burrito liners on a different boot.

Such a bummer. The warboss is such a cool colorway 😭😭😭

The threaded part where it was threaded from the tongue to the shell, did the threads just shear apart? Is there more to this story?

I rode 50 days last season and got these somewhere early-ish in there. I've talked to two other forum members who have had their fuses separate in this way. I'll let them chime in should they want to. If I'd had 80-100 days out of them I really wouldn't have complained.

I would have atleast expected them to throw me a discount on a new set. I was hopeful for a warranty, but really don't hold that against them at all. I bought from a reseller not a retailer. That's on me and not on RIDE.

I'll be honest they look a little beat up but more importantly is that a bunch of glue at the bottom that looks like it hes seen better days? Hard to make out the stitching/material condition at the toe. Boots can deteriorate hard based on storage, constant subjection to hot boot dryers, and most importantly bad warehousing. If you were hard on them (as you should be, that's what they're for) and also got them as NOS where who knows what temps/conditions they were sitting in before purchase, this could definitely happen without manufacturer error.
What looks beat up about them? I'm goofy footed so the left boot has scuff marks from being the one that comes out of the binding most often. The michelin soles looked great. They're a fantastic sole as well.

Interesting what you said about storage, but my gear is all stored in the same place and I have other boots without any such issues.

Just to clarify. The story on these is that they were for a demo fleet and were sold off NOS after everything shut down for COVID. I got them at a pretty good price and I'm not upset at RIDE for not giving me a free pair of boots because they really don't have to. I'm just a bit blown away that they both fell apart like this and that others have had the exactly same issue with the FUSES. I hope they're reinforcing that stuff with better stitching now.

I also take my liners out a lot so maybe that has something to do with it... but probably not.
That said, I love the liners and I'm running those in my TM3's now. I had given up on the TM3's in the past but they might just work out with these liners so I think I'm getting my money's worth out of what I paid. The burrito liners are really quite spectacular!

The exact same thing has happened to mine after 40 days or so. 20/21 model fuse in black with grey toe box. I bought them in person at 720 in Avoriaz which is a legit snowboard shop. The heel hold boa cable keeps the tongues kind of in place so I'm still using them as they are otherwise in good condition and dear god that burrito wrap liner is the best. I bought a backup pair in the Warboss colourway too as I loved them so much but those gave me the worst ankle bruises that took months to heal. There are two hard plastic pieces where the boa cable is anchored to interior of the shell. These aligned perfectly with the mesh window in the liner over the ankle bone causing the most pain I've ever experienced from snowboarding equipment. I had to take them off and walk back across the snowy car park in my socks. I've been riding since the 90s so be assured I've spent many days in pain due to shitty old gear but this was next level. I wish they would sort it out as I'd happily wear Fuses for the rest of my days if I could trust the construction.

This happened to me. Had them warrantied through EVO after reaching out to Ride directly and was advised to go through the retailer. I had No more than 50 days on them.
Other people on this forum have had this issue too. I was pleased with how my warranty was handled, but it’s definitely an odd failure point. I was surprised when I saw the tongue was connected by just glue and some thin threading.

where exactly come the boa cable? over this tongue?
i suppose that if someone has skinny ankles, feet etc, the boa press the tongue in the opposite direction (ankles)
So this pressure together with the movement of the feets/boots made this slowly day after day

my question : where exactly come the boa? round the ankles in order to minimize the heel lift? and if yes over this shields?

UPDATE : yes the boa attaches to the tongue...so as the boot loose in tightness, you have to make the boa tighter and tighter, and that bringt the tongue day after day toward the shins...and after some time the clue cannot hold the tongue and come to this results

That's actually a good observation. The fact that the tongue is pulled back by the cable with their tongue-tied (sp?) system may very well cause damage to the tongue stitching in the long-run. It's just conjecture since I've never owned a pair of Ride boots but it's actually a good point and theory.

Shoot, I didn't know that you got way more mileage out of them after doing that. I thought they held together for a little bit... I really shouldn't have trashed them. Fark! I would have slathered that shiz on there or tried the epoxy that I have already.... Ughhh.

Oh well. I hope the TM3's with the burrito liners and the additional mods I did will get me through this season. I'm only going to get like 15ish days and I really need to get a real boot fit for next season. I didn't ride super aggressively the 4 times I've been out this season, but the last time I rode these boots I had awful toe bang on day 2. With the liners I had a little toe pain after 2 days, but did some more mods and hoping it'll be even better!

With my Tridents, I noticed the tongue-tied boa started to pressure the sides of my ankles when cranked beyond a certain point, so I put some shortened Eliminator tongue shims between the slime tongue and the wrap liner. One of the nice things about the wrap liner is their low bulk, so even with the addition of shims, the tongue volume isn't overly bulky.

Have had this happen to 2 pairs, both were warrantied without issue. I haven't taken the liner out to check, but it feels like I'm halfway there on another pair. Bought in late Feb 2022, so I'll be taking them back to the shop shortly and getting those warrantied too while within the 1 year of purchase.

It does suck, and really is an issue they should address. But at this rate, I get most of a season out of a pair of boots I pay retail for, then most of the next season out of the warranty replacement. All in 150ish days give or take from 2 pairs, if they didn't warranty them I'd be pissed.

as i mentioned, Ride in the video said they bought this boots, so the can last one or even two season.
To be honest i will never buy snowboard boots, when the manufacturer make such a statement.

Are they proud for this????

There's probably some context you missed, like frequency of use, etc. If put to use regularly, a season or two does not sound absurd.

All this is probably an outcome of Ride making things for the mass market, where they choose to cut corners with materials and workmanship and suck up warranty as cost. This happens in just about all mass manufacturing these days, from shoes to cars, so waddayagunnado.

If enough warranty claims are made on a particular issue, there's a point where a design/process change makes more dollar sense. Hopefully, this is one such case.

Agreed here, but this seems like a such a simple thing to fix especially when they keep getting boots warrantied like this.
It definitely hasn't soured me on their stuff, but I'll buy from an authorized retailer next time. I'm curious about their other offerings since this is the best fitting boot I've found for me out of the box. This and the lasso, but lasso didn't work as well for other reasons. Still have those shells just in case...

To continue the saga. I used the TM3's with the liner from the fuses over the weekend and it was okay. I think the hard toe on the TM3 causes some bruising on top of my toe (not toe bang) so I need to figure that out.

Next trial is going to be the TM3 liners in the lassos I have possibly using an eliminator shim between the liner and the boot to try to take up some volume.... lets see how that goes. Might try things out locally in the poconos on weds to get a feel for ish.
