I always liked my K2 Formulas, but the ratchet on the toe strap was dinging my top sheets when unbuckled and flopping around. Unlike most toe straps, the metal of the ratchet was fairly exposed because the strap itself was very minimal. I know that Ride and K2 use similar components, so I took a gamble and ordered Ride toe straps that are specific to their composite bindings. Ultimately the swap worked, and it should apply to most adult sized K2 bindings that use the "Perfect Fit" toe strap.
Step 1 (images 1&2): K2 and Ride both have removable locator pins on their tongues. You can remove the pins by lightly tapping them through with a hammer and large punch. I used a vice with holes in the jaw. If you are careful you can also pull the pins out with pliers, but be careful not to mar the plastic.
Step 2 (images 3&4): You will be installing the K2 pin in the Ride tongue. The hole in the Ride tongue is slightly smaller than the K2, so I used a 7/32 allen wrench to ream it. The pin is not symmetrical and one side is longer. The longer portion faces toward the inside of the binding (see image 4). You can also look at the tongue seat under the binding to see the difference.
Step 3: To insert the pin into the new tongue, you can use a hammer, or dead-blow, to lightly tap it into place being careful not to deform the pin. Again, I did this on a vice with a hole in the jaws. If you are having trouble inserting the pin, I would suggest putting it in the freezer for 20-30 minutes, then lightly heating the tongue. The pin should shrink when it is could, and the tongue will expand when hot. After the pin is inserted, make sure it is seated properly as the inner side should have slightly more pin exposed like we mentioned.
Step 4: Install the new tongue into the binding tray (there is a left and right). The K2 ratchets will fit the new straps perfectly, and you can use your existing ladders.
*My bindings are size Large, but I opted for Medium sized Ride straps since my boots are on the lower end of the K2 size chart (9.5US Ride Fuse).
