My wife has the M5 and I have the M4… the M5’s look cool and all, but they are too narrow on my face. A unisex goggle that fits her face is never going to fit my face.
To me, it’s basically the same thing but they are trying to make a single unisex goggle. A guy with a narrow face can wear the M5’s, but it’s a narrow fit/look for a guy with a wider face.
I noticed in my reviews I did not actually have the measurements of the WM1 and M4 other than a side by side visual. I've added these into both reviews now and will do a 3way overview comparison with the WM1 M4 and M4S looking at frame/lens/fit. Perusing around the internet even on SportRx they don't actually show any measurements other than sitting them side by side and putting them on.

I still think the M4 platform is better than the M5 in every way. The M5 without a case for the extra lense is annoying for my wife and she uses the MFI that comes with the M4.
Not sure how to interpret measurements, but looking forward to to what you come up with.

I was surprised that the M4 is really only 12mm wider and 11mm taller than the WM1. They look a lot different side by side probably due to the external lens curvature measurement being 20mm greater on M4.

Anon M4S MFI® Snowboard Goggles (Grape).

My wife and daughter have been using the Anon WM1 MFI® goggles which have been superb on the Mountain in both Australia and Japan. With the sadly fading Winter conditions down here the EOS sales have suddenly appeared and I was thinking of just giving either the WM3, the M4S or the M5S a try-out for them both. So I checked out a few reviews and from what I worked out the M4S appears to be the best value as you get the hardshell spare lens cover and a mid weight MFI® mask. The WM3 and M5S come with light weight MFI® mask and no Spare lens cover. The M4S is a touch more expensive but the included extra's in my mind are well worth the slightly higher additional outlay.

Anon M4S MFI® Snowboard Goggles (Coral).

Anon for the last few years have been running with their own in house lens system technology they named PERCEIVE which reduced licencing costs with the previous Ziess SONAR lens. The selected lenses on the M4S in Coral are Sunny Bronze (17%/S3), Cloudy Burst (59%/S1) whilst in Grape they are Onyx (6%/S4) & Variable Violet (34%/S2), all with MAGNA-TECH® quick lens-change technology.

Anon M4S mid-weight MFI® Face Mask and PERCEIVE Sunny Onyx (6%/S4) Lens.

So the M4S is basically a scaled down version of Anon's premium level M4 snowboard goggle, so all the review criteria above for the M4 runs the same into this model. Anon have listed the sizing of the M4S as mid sized frame.

I ran the calipers over the WM1, M4S and M4 finding the measurement differences between the 3 Goggles.
Externally across the cylindrical lens curvature was; WM1 210mm, M4S 220mm, M4 230mm,
The external perimeter width was; WM1 173mm, M4S 179mm, M4 185mm,
The internal extreme measurement across the foam was; WM1 147mm, M4S 154mm, M4 163mm,
The maximum external frame height came in at; WM1 90mm, M4S 95mm, M4 101mm,
and the frame/foam thickness depth is slightly more than the WM1 40mm with the M4S being the same as the M4 at 45mm.

Roughly calculated, there is a 5% incremental step up level when moving between the small framed Anon WM1 to mid framed M4S and finally the large framed M4.

From Top to Bottom Anon M4 MFI®, Anon M4S MFI® and Anon WM1 MFI® Snowboard Goggles.
Looking at all the measurements as a whole the Anon M4S has a mid sized frame and really sort of sits directly in the centre of the WM1 (small frame) and M4 (large frame).

Image

Anon M4 and M4S hardshell Lens Covers.
The Anon M4S comes with the additional hardshell spare lens cover which I feel should be a standard on all of Anon's premium level RRP goggles. The size of the M4S cover is exactly the same as the M4 but they have their own specifically embossed lettering on the case for the appropriate model.

Image

Anon M4S mid-weight MFI® Face Mask and PERCEIVE Sunny Bronze (17%/S3) Lens.
The Anon M4S comes with the latest dual ventilation flap mid weight MFI® face mask which is so much better than the light weight masks on the WM1 and M5S. The sizing on the M4S mask is pretty man sized so I'd say my wife will be using her Anon women's micro-fleeced MFI® face mask as an alternate replacement.

Image

Anon M4S MFI® Snowboard Goggles (Grape) retail box set.
Like most premium priced goggles these days the Anon M4S comes with 2 lens for either bright or low light conditions. I've noticed when changing between the 2 lens that the MAGNA-TECH® system on the M4S feels that it is slightly more stronger than on my M4 however this may be because the frame/lens is smaller on the M4S with the same amount of magnets.

Image

Anon M4S mid-weight MFI® Face Mask and PERCEIVE Cloudy Burst (59%/S1) Lens.
The Anon M4S MFI® is a great high performing snowboard goggle for hitting the Alpine having all the exact same premium features of the M4 however with a slightly down sized frame. Definitely the number 1 all inclusive Goggle system for woman or men that want the best on the market with a reduced mid sized frame.

Smaller can often be better ⭐ ⭐ ⭐ ⭐ ⭐

Well done!
That’s interesting about the strength of the magnets on the M4s vs M4. Do you think it could be because they might be a little bit closer together?

It's only a slight feel but it may be the newness fresh out of the box for the M4S as well as being 5% smaller in size with same amount of magnets. My M4 are a few seasons vintage but I've never had a problem with the lens popping off in an untimely spill etc. I thought I read somewhere a while ago that they had increased the magnet strength but could not find it to confirm. I noticed on SportRX with their M4 vs M5 review they mentioned that Anon is using stronger Magnets now.

Cambered did you wife ever try on the M4S or M5S whilst looking for her goggles? I've sent SportRX a message to do a review on both these side by side to get a good comparison.

Thanks for asking.
No, she did not. The normal M5’s have worked just fine for her. She likes them a lot, so no need to try a different variant.
Have you tried the M5?

No, I've had my M4 for over 5 years now and they are still holding up superb with no degradation in the foam/construction etc. Unfortunately there is only one Snow Ski Store where I live and they don't have a big range of gear and I rarely ever buy anything off them anyway.

You’re not missing out on anything. I think the m4 is a better goggle and I still prefer the look of it versus the m5.

Agree, my wife has a small 53cm head and the WM1 was an absolute perfect size for her. The M4S is around 5% bigger in frame size than the WM1 (whilst 5% smaller than the M4) and I was worried she would think it too large but she really likes the wider peripheral vision of the M4S to her older WM1. I ended up selling her older WM1 and it was only $Au70 to jump up to a new M4S. The fact the M4/M4S have the bonus hardshell spare lens holder and midweight MFI face mask really makes it the best choice.

M4S vs M5S.

Now I'm fortunate enough to be able to purchase all the hardware, accessories and outerwear that I do my SBF reviews for but I do have a hell of a lot of gear that doesn't get used to it's full effect. In goggles alone I have 3 pairs of M4, 2 pairs of M4S and 2 pairs of WM1 now. I noticed that Sport RX had done a side by side review of the Anon M4 vs Anon M5 which is really good however there are no reviews comparing the Anon M4S vs Anon M5S which I'd really like to do.

Anyway I shot SportRX some correspondence hoping they would do a comparison review between the Anon M4S and Anon M5S as well. Still praying that this occurs but they were nice enough to send me some pictures so we can have a closer physical look between these 2 goggles.

So I ran some measurements over all these 4 goggles, the WM1, M5S, M4S and M4 finding the differences between them.
Externally across the cylindrical lens curvature was;
WM1 210mm,
M5S 215mm,
M4S 220mm,
M4 230mm,
The external perimeter width was;
WM1 173mm,
M5S 174mm,
M4S 179mm,
M4 185mm,
The internal extreme measurement across the foam was;
WM1 147mm,
M5S 148mm,
M4S 154mm,
M4 163mm,
The maximum external frame height came in at;
WM1 90mm,
M5S 95mm,
M4S 95mm,
M4 101mm,
and the frame/foam thickness depth;
WM1 40mm,
M5S, M4S & M4 45mm.

Anon M5S (left) vs Anon M4S (right) front profile.

So side by side you can see the Anon M5S is slightly smaller than the M4S. However when you measure directly across the front of the actual lens extremities the M4S has basically close to the same lens width as the M5S.

Image

Anon M5S (left) vs Anon M4S (right) top profile.
But you can see there is a frame size difference between the smaller Anon M5S and the M4S. The big sizing difference here is attributed to the M4S having small wings on the frame either side of its lens making the chassis a lot wider than the M5S. As a result the Anon M4S is around 11% bigger across the frame width extremities from these wings where the retention strap is anchored into whereas the M5S has their strap anchored directly into the side frame.

You can see the external foam line point from the rebate on the M4S is only 4% wider than the M5S internal dimensions. So basically what we have here is the M5S is able to make its frame width a lot smaller due to the semi-rimless lens design and the clever strap anchor point positioning.

Image

Anon M5S frame height profile.

Image

Anon M4S frame height profile.

Looking at the frame height between with the M5S and M4S MFI® they are both exactly the same at 95mm. So what we have here is that the M5S basically sits sizing wise directly in between the WM1 and the M4S.

If you are after at a slightly shorter frame width option than the mid framed M4S MFI® snowboard google then the Anon M5S MFI® does fit perfectly into this category.
