So today we’re off to buy a pair of boots. Going to be trying the idea of padding over the vein before heat moulding the boot and see what that does. My concern with this is that once bindings are put on they will close up the gap (that is basically just an air gap) and apply pressure to the vein again. I think we’ll end up cutting them up so watch this space.

Long time ago, but definitely still a prevalent issue for some (me!). How did this end up turning out?? Did the air pocket created by using padding with the heat molding help your wife’s feet?

I think this is the single most helpful thing I’ve ever read on the internet.

Thank you so much, I’ve gone to almost a dozen bootfitters and shops, and have done everything anyone has ever suggested to try to alleviate my pain, to no effect. (Heat molded liners with padding to increased volume during the molding, superfeet insoles, adding padding to certain areas, getting the tongue and hot spots permanently compressed, trying bigger boots with more volume and padding the extra length, not tightening the lower part of the boot, trying trad laces instead of boas, ad naseum….)

Dude you all have no idea the amount on pain I’m in when I’m riding. Like constant, sobbing-inducing, crushing nerve pain. It is literally absolutely torturous and I dread going out every time and I have to take my boots off every run and sometimes at the top of the chairlift too. It’s not uncommon for me to be regularly ugly sobbing/crying on the chairlift up.

I’m looking into switching to step on bindings cuz I’m thinking the pressure of the tightened boot + the pressure of the binding strap is just too much for my top of the foot nerve/vein.

I just cut out the top of my liner on my Ride Cadence boots and it is definitely less painful, but my feet are still going numb and like pulsing/throbbing. I also unlaced the bottom 2 eyelets on the boot liners. I almost never tighten the lower boa on the boots, but did just to see what happens after this test. I’m going to cut out a bit more, but am not sure if i should go towards my toe or out towards my ankle. Maybe I’ll do both!

It probably doesn’t help that I have mild lymphedema. ☹

my feet after wearing the altered boots for 20 mins, and where I cut on my liners. You can see the obvious raised areas where I removed padding. I think I just need to remove more…
Did you end up cutting more of the liner out and did it work? I'm having the same problem and am thinking of cutting that section of the liner out as well, but feel like i will be in the same boat as you as far as the rest of the foot.
